Show THE IMPERIAL GOLD MINE it is stated that the th imperial gold mine located in cabe cove district eastern oregon has been leased eased to mcewen arthur mcewen of sumpter this property is owned by L TJ colbath J C young and the crismon estate of salt lake the portland journal in commenting upon the transaction action and on the past history of the mine says its production of high grade ore for the past seven or eight years in small quantities and the little development prosecuted during the same per period iod has caused the district to regard it as a certain producer when operated on a permanent substantial scale this seemed assured when jonathan bourne and C W bibly of oregon took the property on a bond and placed captain A M paul in charge as superintendent during the year 1903 captain paul mined a limited quantity of high grade ore and began sinking on what is known as the imperial shoot this was taken down fifty feet below the former adit level with the result of proving that he ore body widened slightly and was equally rich at that additional dit ional depth here eight to twelve inches of the ore 0 carried five or six ounces of gold and 5 or 10 per cent ceni of galena captain paul de d sired to prosecute sinking but the prop uro erty again reverted to its former owners owner and since that time the former supers has been actively endeavoring to get it under way once more the lease just reported indicates that the owners prefer to let others do the development on a royalty basis mcewen arthur mcewen are es eg specially ally familiar with the imperial and have long sought a lease that they will prosecute vigorous development is assured by the energy displayed in getting down to business there is enough ore in sight to keep the little mill busy while further work is being done and it is presumed that depth will be sought rapidly something like feet of work has been done on the imperial thit this defined one continuous shoot in the imperial vein for a length of feet which has been sloped in some places to the surface most of it being shipping rock the drift follows the vein for 1100 feet and crosscuts cross cuts have been made to the south to the winchester vein on the big eagle vein regarded the mother lode of the cove or feet of drifts have been driven the steady production of shipping ore which will be sorted from the milling grade and concentrates is the gramme pro announced by the new management |
