Show encouraging news has been received of lat efrom the emerald mine at mammoth tintic gintic district and tae the company is feeling enuch ch pleased over the physical condition of this is admirably located property the ophir queen group at ophir tooele thoele county adjoining the great ophir hill mine haf s been corralled by a strong michigan crowd headed by samuel crawford of menominee nee that state it is with a feeling of deep sorrow that the mining review makes mention of the recent death of L E riter of this city mr riter for years has been classed among our leading and enterprising mining operators and his death will be deeply felt among a large circle of friends and acquaintances many years ago mr riter became identified with ith I 1 the mining interests of the mammoth and silver city portions of tintic gintic district at the latter camp he owned many valuable interests and it has been very largely due to his efforts elferts that silver city has held its own during the past ten or twelve years and the camp owes him much for the enterprise he has displayed in the building up of 0 f this portion of the district of strong individuality and a steadfastness of purpose almost remarkable he has stamped his personality sona lity upon the growth and prosperity of silver city in a manner that will be long remembered he has been the mainstay of the camp in times of prosperity as well as in times of depression of late years he has branched out quite largely in mining operations in other portions of the west but in speaking of him he will ever be identified with the history of silver city and of tintic gintic mining district he was a man of strict integrity and unimpeachable character and his word was as good as his bond we shall all miss him and as time passes we will realize our loss more keenly than the present day he was ever a friend of the mining review which joins with others in extending sympathy and words of condolence to his bereaved family and sorrowing relatives and friends I 1 clyde H wilson of clifton district in the deep creek country superintendent of the copper belt and lucy L mines is in the city with some fine specimens of high grade ore from recent strikes in these two promising properties J E beveridge the well known mining expert has resigned as manager of the dixie mine of the utah eastern mining company and has been succeeded by charles dolittle late superintendent of the smelter at leadville adam G of dry canyon was in from his jay bird a few days ago and reported having sunk a in the mouth of his tunnel about fifteen feet and opened a foot of lead carbonates when he first cut the fissure about a dozen feet from the surface values were hardly perceptible with a foot of lead carbonates within twenty five feet of the surface and still widening he may withdraw his offer elsewhere in this issue from the public soon |
