Show the new ontario mill J J from born the park cit city y record the old ontario mill is no more while vaile it has been generally understood that the old plant was to be remodeled and made up to date a true conception of the great improvements made can be obtained only by a visit to the alie plant A mere shell of the old ontario is all that remains to bring back memories to old Par kites of the enormous wealth turned out by this plant and so vast have been the changes made in and about ane mill that wis itis practically new through courtesy of superintendent A DM D moffatt a record reporter was this week shown through the plant and made familiar with the processes that are soon to be put into commission there it takes but a glance through the building to see that all the improvements have been made on a basis of and con and roominess not bein being g overlooked in short the experienced eye and practical hand of mr moffat have transformed the old mill into one embodying up to date and approved ideas the shaft from the tunnel to the mill is now nearing completion the timbers all be ing framed and ready to be put in this will consist of a double compartment shaft over which a gallows frame will be erected and a 10 horsepower electric motor installed to furnish power for hoisting the ore from the tunnel tc the top floor of the mill from the rock breaker the ore will go to the rolls and then by a clever arrangement of bucket elevators the fine product will go to the jigs while the stuff that is too coarse will be carried back to the breaker and re crushed and so the process will continue tile the rock breaker is to be operated by a 15 horsepower horse horae power electric motor A 14 inch mesh screen is on the flie bolter the rolls are of the davis pattern and operated by a 40 horsepower moter A dewate rizer a device consisting of a series of paddle wheels wheels for throwing the water out of the product has been installed and will insure a considerable saving in labor laboi no brummels brummels trum mels mels have been put in nor will they be unless so decided at a later date if it is found to be advantageous that they be used they will be installed A lar large e settling tank is in place besides a spits casting for the classification of ores the jigs consist of a large cooley and three double compartment hart har jigs the latter of which was wa built right at the mill and will be operated by an eccentric motion the product from the jig swill be received by a large unit tank and from there will go to the huntington three huntington mills of the standard five foot dimensions have been placed and these too are operated by a separate 20 horsepower motor the wilfley tables are on the first floor and all of them nine in number are in place and ready for work six of these tables are for the regular product two will be used for the slimes and the other is the latest improved wilfley slime table this part of the mill is so arranged that the ores and slimes are kept separate automatically and carried to the Wilf leys or slime tables as the case may be the water from the jigs flows into a tank under the spitz casting and from the settlings considerable values will be obtained thus briefly and roughly stated Is the equipment of the new mill though after the trial run several minor changes and improvements prove ments may be found necessary As the shaft from the tunnel will not be completed as soon as the mill is ready to start the ore will have to be hauled b by v team for 18 a short time it is the intention to work only one eight hour shift for the first two or three weeks until everything is running smoothly when the force will be increased one exceptionally fine feature of the mill is the use of electricity for motive power this is the first plant in the camp to adopt this system and it speaks well for i the of the management mr moffat whose years of experience have taught him what is best is firmly of the opinion that there is no power nearly so good then too by using separate motors as the new mill will do it will not be necessary to shut the entire plant down on account olevery of every little accident that may happen the capacity of the plant as it now stands is tons but it could very easily be fixed up so as to handle or tona per day the building is so roomy that evea even were this done it would not be crowded aside from the mill arrangement has been made whereby the quicksilver known to lie under the mill andin and in the surrounding ground can be worked in the spring it will be remembered how profitably this product was treated last summer when work was discontinued in order that work on the erection of the mill might go on A tunnel has been dug from the big dump in front of the mill through to the point to anere the shaft was sunk last summer A trench will be worked hydraulically from the old retort room to the sluice boxes so that all this dirt may be treated As it requires a great deal of water to separate the quicksilver from the earth this work will not begin until april or may when water is abundant A the mill will in all probability start next week though it may not run steadily for a little time as a number of small changes may be found necessary considering that carpenter work did not begin until october this is certainly splendid progress for the amount of work that has been done and done too in a most thorough and complete manner great as is the value of the product feht out by the old ontario the new mill may yet produce even more wealth and eclipse all former records I 1 |
