Show THE GEOLOGY OF BINGHAM the report of the united states geological survey on the areal and economic geology of the bingham canyon district utah by arthur keith and J M boutwell is now ii nearing earing completion it embodies emo odies four main parts which are devoted to history and development surface geology economic geology and detailed descriptions of mines in the historical sketch bingham is pointed out as the oldest camp in the state and the only one in which placer mining has proved successful in the discussion of the development methods of mining and plants for reduction are briefly described and a concise sketch of the production of the camp is given the text on the surface geology includes descriptions of the formations their strike and deformation or faulting and the porphyry intrusions and are elucidated by means of a colored geological map and by structure sections the economic portion gives a statement of the general characteristics of the ores and a detailed description of each species of mineral among those constituting the ores and cont contains ainsa a discussion of ore values the study brings out several new points of commercial value A chapter on auriferous gravels deals with the history of this branch of mining the distribution of pay and the origin of the deposits and closes with a discussion of future possibilities finally a detailed description of the underground der ground geology of each property is presented with illustrations showing their characteristic f features ea tures this report will probably go to press early this summer and when published may be obtained upon application to the director of the united states geological survey |
