Show RICH STRIKES IN IDAHO A dispatch from lewiston idaho says gays there is a great deal of excitement here over the rich free milling ore strike made recently in the cave gulch district news of which was brought to the city by J M edwards of the crown point mine the strike was made by hiram on cave gulch five miles above the idaho side and about thirty miles above lewiston A five foot lead has been discovered and it is estimated that the discoverer has already taken out ore to the value of to in a day mr pounded out with a mortar and pestle gold enough to fill a five pound lard can the lead has been traced for feet the ledge upon which the recent strike has been made was first located many years ago and at different points considerable work has been done ir in the district but unfortunately although 0 rich float rock had bad been picked up the th elead lead never be located mr has a pack train of four horses with ore valued at which was expected to reach here today mr was working under a grub stake furnished furnish edby by joseph jos eph walker and M L smith of lewiston it is expected there will be a rush to the district if the ore brought down by the pack train proves as rich as that shown by mr edwards another dispatch from pullman washington contains the following account of another rich strike A report of a wonderfully rich strike of gold bearing quartz was received here today by george ritchie in a letter from his father who is at wild goose rapids on the snake river above lewiston idaho while prospecting mr ritchie and a companion found a ledge of decomposed quartz from which they took a large sample to their camp they worked at pulverizing it with a morter from sunset until 1 at night and the next morning washed the pulverized rock and found more than in coarse gold the discovery was made near an abandoned placer diggings of the early where much gold was taken out the find was kept quiet and mr ritchie wrote for his son and a few friends at pullman to come at once to what he thinks is one of the greatest discoveries of recent years A number of pullman citizens have claims in that vicinity and there is great excitement among these and a party is preparing to make a rush to the now new eldorado the letter from mr ritchie contained but meager details but it showed that the writer had the utmost confidence in the value of the new discovery |
