Show lei I 1 the sevier consolidated of 01 gold mountain j southern utah is receiving an unusual amount of attention from mining men that portion of the state has entered upon an era of prosperity which will be lasting and from this time on the mines down that way will cut an important figure in the production of the precious as well as the baser baker metals coal will also be mined extensively ten so the country is destined to develop and grow rapidly in iron county the iron mines are about to be opened up on an extensive scale emery and some adjoining counties have their coal but plute county comes forward with one of bf the richest gold producing districts in the world this district gold mountain has won much fame during the past two or three 7 av birdseye seye view of the sevier gold mine years it was not long ago that the annie laurie mine was little else than a prospect for a number of years the owners struggled along but fearlessly in their effort to make their property pay its way they were thoroughly convinced that the district was rich in gold but it took work besides considerable sid erable money to determine this and they were poor one day a crowd of pennsylvania capitalists P L kimberly and associates came along and after examining into the merits of the proposition decided to take it up they succeeded in buying a major portion of the stock and proceeded at once upon a vigorous campaign of development the results met their expectations many times over while last fall the management refused an offer of for the mine before the annie laurie received so much prominence the sevier mine located a mile from the mill of the former company wasi was looked upon as being the real bonanza of the gold mountain district it being the mother iode that belief is still entertained by many but anyway with further development the property will keep pace with its rich neighbor the sevier mine has been under the management of charles lammersdorf Lam Lani from the time tim e of its discovery up to a fw few weeks ago when it was bonded and absorbed by the sevier consolidated gold mining milling and prospecting company which owned six valuable claims adjoining this merger brings together two splendid properties with the assurance that they both will be the scene of active operations right away the sevier consolidated is s well financed and managed which inspires the utmost confidence that those in charge will carry out their plans to the fullest extent captain H C lawrence E M its manager informs the mining review vie w that now that arrangements are all completed the properties are to be opened up and made ready for a steady season of production the workings of the sevier sevi e r mine are to be cleaned out and put in snape shap e the mill is to be rebuilt and equipped with modern machinery tramways tram ways are to be erected to facilitate the economic handling of ores and he contemplates that the arrangement ran gement of every detail about the mine and mill will be so thorough that the ores can be mined and reduced at no greater cost than per ton the proposed mill will be a combination amalgamation and cyanide plant capable of handling an output of tons of ore per day the batteries will be eight in num ber dropping 4 a total of forty stamps in the cyanide department there will be sixteen 50 ton vats where the leaching processes will be conducted surrounding the mill will be a fine complement of buildings in the shape of comfortable dwelling houses boarding and bunk houses assay office blacksmith shops etc the location of the combined properties of the sevier consolidated is admirable for the reason that water and timber are abend ant the place is also profoundly scenic being in one of the prettiest canyons over which mt baldy towers with all its majesty the sevier mine was discovered almost eleven years ago the ledges are strikingly prominent as the droppings crop pings are gigantic in their proportions and tower skyward to such a height that they seem sentinel like commanding the attention of the treasure seeker they not only give promise of what is below but they also represent fortunes in themselves as the great masses of quartz are nothing more or less than milling ore of value sufficient to pay for treatment on the ground leaving a handsome profit the sevier group contains four patented claims together with two mill sites this pr property enjoys the distinction of being the i first patented ground in the district and also the first property to be equipped with a mill of its own this plant was operated for a time successfully but owing to a siege of litigation charles lammersdorf Lam then manager closed it down together with the mine and it remained in that sta state teof of inaction until the recent consolidation was effected but some time before this the litigants had patched up their differences and smoked the pipe of 0 f peace the formation found upon the sevier consolidated properties like the balance of the district is porphyry the veins being true fissures with a northeasterly and southwesterly strike on the sevier group and extending into the original sevier consolidated group which covers tile the apex are three separate and distinct large veins these veins traverse the old sevier for a distance of 1500 feet also the latter for pa 1800 1806 feet paral lelling each other and being about feet apart the old sevier group is developed by three tunnels no I 1 tunnel is feet long and extends along what is known as the back lead this vein is about eight feet feel in width and carries average values of 5 ounces of silver and 1440 gold A drift running to the south in this tunnel cuts a body of ore thirty feet wide which according to 0 mill runs shows values of 14 in gold to the ton this ore extends from the tunnel level jevel to the surface thence on along 7 r EF E F X 7 r the sevier mine and mill the course of the vein and in character is the same as found in the other developed mines in the district which have gained a similar depth this is true of the annie JL laurie aurie blue bird trappers pride and others tunnel no 2 has a length of feet and extends along what is known as the front vein a distance of feet in this tunnel are two drifts one running northerly for feet the other southerly for feet along the front vein which shows a width here of eight and a half feet the record of mill runs taken from the development work in this shaft shows average values of 14 to the ton while assays essays taken at the breast gave returns of 20 to the ton the no 2 tunnel when extended will cut all the ledges at a vertical depth of feet tunnel no 3 is 1163 feet in length cutting the middle vein and is intended to tap the front and back veins when extended far enough to reach them it will also cut these veins at a vertical depth of 1100 feet this tunnel shows a seven foot vein of ore averaging three ounces of silver and 15 gold during the development of tunnels nos 4 1 and 2 tons of ore were extracted dmd and milled which yielded returns of per ton upon the copper plates leaving about 7 per ton in the tailings this ore was taken out during the natural course of development none of it being scoped and was only treated by amalgamation the most important developments per formed upon the original sevier consolidated group are the erie tunnel and the shaft upon the sevier extension claim the tunnel has been driven into the erie claim for a distance of feet and has already cut three veins a fourth vein will be encountered at a distance of about feet the latter I 1 is s the main sevier vein and is the one most desired to be reached the shaft has exposed this for a distance of feet on account of a large fault in the formation midway across the sevier group the territory is divided into two parts which have been designated as the upper and lower flats numerous assays essays have been taken from many places about these flats along the surface droppings crop pings of the veins sam T godbe the well known metallurgist made an examination of these veins and surface ground and from samples tak en from an area of feet square on the east side of the upper flat got returns or oi ounces silver and 10 gold another assay of samples from a similar amount of ground on the west side of the same flat gave twelve ounces silver and gold an average lot of samples from an equal area on the east cast side of the lower jower alatas flat assayed three ounces silver and g gold 0 id an average of surface ores taken from a tract feet on the west side of the lower flat gave six ounces silver and anc gold g old the average depth of auriferous ground on these flats was arbitrarily estimated at thirty feet for the purpose of this examina examination tion giving tons of ore this float ore is the same as that found on the old sevier veins above and retains its identity both in extent and value mr air godbe calco that the surface ore on the flat is sufficiently enormous tomake a great paying mine without going to the depth for more and he is always careful and conservative conser dative in his statements summing it all up the showing of ore where the veins can be traced 2000 feet upon the surface and in the workings of the combined properties leaves it very difficult to estimate anywhere near correctly what the producing capacity of off the mine really is it js is certainly capable of coming for w ward ard with many millions of tons and there are very good reasons to believe that the sevier consolidated will rank as one of the greatest gold mines in utah everything points that way and conditions are decidedly indicative indica e of the mine gaining that honor and glory then when the character of the ore and the cheapness with which chit it can be mined and milled is taken into consideration together with the fact that the veins are true fissures going to a great reat depth
