| Show A department OF MINES at the recent session of the international mining congress at boise idaho a resolution was adopted urging upon the national congress the enactment of a law providing for a department of mines whose head shall be a member of the presidents cabinet so far as the subject has been canvassed every mining man and almost every individual interested in almost any way in min mining affairs are unanimous in favor of the creation of such a department in our national household rightly urging that mining as an industry is fully as important as is that of agriculture and it is urged that the industry should be fostered and prote protected Aed in every way possible the farmer produces perishable wealth the real wealth imperishable and enduring for ages comes from the mines and this being the case why should not the mining industry receive recognition by our national congress at least to the extent accorded the raiser of grain fruits and cattle the department of agriculture is constantly making tests and experiments calculated to promote and advance the interests of the agriculturists and the coultry at large is bene fitted under government control experiments and tests pertaining to mining milling and metallurgy could be made that the individual or even wealthy syndicates could not even attempt and the results of such experiments such tests would undoubtedly prove of incalculable value to every mining man and operator from the successful mine owner down to the untiring prospector A department of mines would be an important factor in the promotion of the mining industry and as much so as the department of agriculture is to the bhea k t and cattle growing interests of the country |
