Show the engineering and timing journal the last issue of the engineering and mining journal of new york announces a change of management due to the death of its late owner richard P rothwell and the purchase of the paper by james H mcgraw and his associates in making the announcement the journal states that hereafter the editorial department of the paper will be presided over by dr david D avid T day whose connection with the united states geological survey his intimate acquaintance with the mining industry of the united states and his splendid ability as an organizer together with his popularity in mining and engineering circles eminently fits him for this responsible position in the past the engineering and mining journal has not been at all popular with the rank and file of mining men of the west largely owing to the fact that in many instances it is believed that it has been unfair in its treatment of of the mining industry of this country and often unjust in its criticisms of mining operations in this intermountain region the mining review is pleased therefore to note that the new management makes the frank statement that the paper 1 hereafter will not be conducted as an exponent of all the views held and defended by mr rothwell and it is safe to assume that in the future many of the features of the journal in the past so antagonistic to the material interest the west will be entirely eliminated dr day was in the city last week to the coast accompanied compa nied by i his wife it being his intention to sojourn in zion a few days upon his return trip he is a profound scholar a most pleasant gentleman and we feel that the journal I 1 is to be congratulated upon being able to secure the services as editor in chief of a man 0 eminent in mining and scientific circles ci relps |
