Show MAYNE AND LEONARD HILL park record one of the busiest little plants about camp these days is the mayne and leonard concentrator located at the old anchor concentrator site their new cleveland knowles magnetic separator is working nicely and is a very interesting piece of machinery the plant is equipped with three elevators which convey the stuff from the dump to the main elevator and back by gravity to the bins above the roaster three large missouri jigs are employed the jigged product goes from the bins to the roaster when the stuff is sub ejected to just enough heat to take out the sulphur and make the iron magnetic from the roaster the material goes to the cooling floor and from there to a self feeding hopper just above a large belt on which it is deposited and which takes it to the magnetic separator this separator is provided with two revolving magnets stationed immediately above the conveying belt the first magnet weighs 1370 pound sand the second one 1600 revolving on ball bearings and so nicely adjusted that but one horse is necessary to run the entire apparatus to these magnets the iron lead and silver adheres the zinc pas singon under to its bin the iron and other mineral being scraped off automatically as the magnets revolve into another bin these magnets take out 99 96 per cent of the iron the lead and silver going gling with the iron and making a good smelting smelling sm elting product the zinc is left lef t clean and is all ready for weighing which is done at the plant and loaded for shipment A class of is also being run from the second magnet the plant has a capacity of from 18 to 20 tons daily and employs a force of twelve men one shift on jigs and two on the roaster and separator the dynamo in use also furnishes electric lights for the whole plant two cars of zinc and one car of iron were loaded this week mr mayne informed the writer that he will be begin ain at once to make inake preparations for winter the entire plant is to be covered more bin room is to be added a shed from the water tank over the mill and extra boiler and steam radiators it will be an altogether complete plant and there is eno enough ugh material on the dump to keep it going for at least a year heretofore it has been largely experimental and tb the e operators have had the long end to carry in the way of expense but now that everything is running smoothly and satisfactorily and shipments have begun a balance on the other side will result |
