Show TESTS NEW SHALE PROCESS according to the colorado shale news the ginet process retort recently completed at the colorado school of mines has made numerous runs during the past thirty days the plant as first constructed was equipped with oil burners fuel oil having been purchased in the market for the purpose of heating the retorts in order to arrive at a definite determination of the quantity of fixed gas recovered in the retorting process gas burners have been substituted for the oil burners the results have been exceedingly cee satisfactory mr ginet sta states tes that in the first chamber of the retort the oil generated heat to about degrees fahrenheit the gas burners bring this temperature pera ture up to 1100 A measurement of the gas coming from the shale has proven that the quantity tyis is more than sufficient to supply heat for the retorts and in addition it is believed that there is ample gas for such power as is needed to operate the agitators in the various test runs which have been completed up to the present time it is noted that the oil recovery has been much higher than was expected the lowest test being 67 gallons gall ons A special run of measured shale amounting to 1500 pounds showed a return of 58 gallons or in excess of 77 gallons per ton refining tests of this oil show a recovery of 14 per cent in gasoline 36 per cent in kerosene and 40 per cent in lubricating catin oil A carload of shale has been used up in making the tests and another carload has now arrived for future runs |
