Show SPEED THE DAY just one week ago a 9 a day union plasterer walked into the business district of salt lake with the writer asked if he was working the plasterer replied 1 I dont know yet I 1 am just going to find out the concern that I 1 have been working for is on oil the new american plan basis now and I 1 do not know whether my union is going to allow us to work under that plan or not this explanation was made by a man of family and apparently a good honest worker a man who wanted to work a man not at all in harmony with the arbitrary stand taken by his union against the american open shop idea for lie he went on to say 1 I 1 am getting sick and tired of this everlasting turmoil I 1 am telling you the truth when I 1 say that I 1 was doing much better and saving more money when the wage scale was 4 a day and every man worked without fear of being called out by the business agent of the union the man who as you possibly know now bosses the boss of the job A few weeks ago the mining review published an ail editorial in which the return of sanity was pleaded for if this plasterers remarks suggest anything it is that the sentiment in favor of the live and let live policy is taking a firm hold on reasonable men in the unions that the irresponsible and blatant agitator is soon going to be cast into the discard speed the day J |
