Show opening up big mine in western wyoming byomin five years ago this fall W A mckinney of salt lake took hold of a mining property thirty miles north and east of Co keville wyoming near the head of the north fork of smiths fork of the bear river in lincoln county the discovery of the mine that has since been developed was made twenty eight years ago by old salt lakers but its remoteness from transportation lack of roads and other considerations prevented anything being done with the ground until mckinney and those who became interested with him undertook its development while in salt lake during the month mr air mckinney was in receipt of a letter from the men in charge of the property advising him that the no 4 tunnel which has been driven over feet and which was run with the purpose of cutting the main ledge at a vertical depth of feet under the next deepest tunnel had made connections and that the vein at the point of intersection was four feet wide samples of the ore that accompanied the letter were assayed and the returns showed oz gold oz silver and per cent copper indicating an assay value of approximately per ton 1 I do not know said mr mckinney whether the sample forwarded was picked or whether it was taken as an average of the vein where it was opened but we were expecting a good showing because of the character of the ore exposed in the upper tunnels I 1 am now convinced that we have a mine the property comprises twenty five claims which now are in process of patenting in including a in the bottom of the canyon below the mine workings the ground is owned by mr mckinney and two or three associates who have provided the means for development road building surveying etc and who now believe they are sure of being fully repaid for the years of work and large expenditures of money that the proposition has entailed considerable ore of good grade has been shipped in the past but the average value of the consign ments have not approached those disclosed in the lower tunnel the ground is covered with growing timber and in this respect the are well provided for all future needs both under and above ground one of these days said mr mckinney we are going to show the world that we have a bonanza mine that oil is not the only product of lincoln county wyoming that is worth talking about we have not matured plans for the future and they are not worrying us at present for we are certain that the proposition will be able to take care of itself from this time on |
