Show STERLING MINING MAN RETIRES after being prominently identified with the mining and industrial progress of utah for more than twenty years john M hayes treasurer of the utah copper company is shaping his affairs so that he may as nearly around the end of the year as possible cease all business activity and join his family on the coast for an extended period of rest and recreation As long ago as may last mr hayes asked vice president and managing t director D C jackling for his release and while mr hayes is serving under a contract that requires a years grace in its termination mi nation by either side he be expressed the hope that the company would name his successor in time for him to be relieved by the first of the coming year no intimation of who will be named to succeed him has yet tz P john M hayes treasurer utah copper been given though mr hayes expects that announcement will soon be made for more than seventeen years john M hayes has been an integral part of the executive machine that has so masterfully handled the affairs of the worlds greatest copper mining enterprise and during the past several years he has been treasurer of the corporation po ration previous to that time for three years or more he was identified with the old bingham consolidated company when captain duncan macvichie was general manager and when imer pett now general manager of the bingham mines company and herman H green now one of the city commissioners ners of salt lake were identified with the same company in executive capacities mr hays is pardonably proud of the fact that his identification with enterprises in utah has always been in connection with men who have made enviable rep stations as builders in their chosen fields of endeavor and while he does not contemplate an early return to an active business career and probably never again in utah he is about to retire with a conscientious regard and a feeling of highest esteem for all his former associates and men of business with whom his active career in utah has brought him in contact in addition to his long service with the utah copper company mr hayes has taken advantage of the opportunities that made it possible for him to become connected with various business enterprises in salt lake and utah and through gli which he has built up a large circle of business and social friends and it is the severing of these associations ciati ons and the pleasant and lasting memories they have so indelibly impressed upon him that causes him to regret his going away flattering offers have been made to mr hayes to engage in business on the coast but he has fully determined that for some time at least he will try and forget that there is sue such h a thing as business so that he may to the fullest possible extent enjoy the surcease from care that he has determined shall be his mr hayes has been successful in business he has been a highly respected and valuable member of local society and regret will be universal in utah that he and his estimable wife and family are to make their homes on the coast |
