Show ACTIVITY AT HOLBROOK by james F obrien holbrook ariz may 9 carload after carload of machinery tools and casing have been arriving here during the last few days for the wind river producing and refining company and within a short time everything should be ready for completing the hopi well to the oil sands the equipment which the hopi company had while heavy tor for a standard drill ten years ago is considered too light by the wind river people who are putting in a heavier boiler and engine as well as heavier drilling stems and bits they are getting in full sets of tools and equipment to enable them to carry out the large plans of development together with 10 inch and other casing and two miles of two inch piping for the water line they are also putting in an extra heavy pump and pumping plant to take the place of the lighter one heretofore in use the machinery which has been received by the wind river people is more than ample tor for present needs at the hopi well and it is known that they contemplate developing ve not only the big acreage which they secured from the hopi company and the aztec petroleum securities company but also lands secured from others aggregating some acres in all they are under contract to begin drilling the acreage obtained from the aztec company within sixty days and part of the equipment received here is no doubt intended for that purpose since their entry into the ho holbrook field the stock of the wind river company has advanced on the open market a total of 66 they previously had big per cent and as holdings in three of the best and proven fields elds the quick advance at this time is looked upon by the talent as highly complimentary to holbrook assistant secretary holbrook chamber of commerce rn merce the adamana adamand oil company last week closed a cont arct with the L A clampitt Clim pitt company of los angeles to complete its well to the 2000 foot point it if necessary though it is expected to have a pay well before that depth is reached the clam pitts are known as among the most experienced and successful well drillers drillars in the country and it is believed there will be little time lost when once they get busy it is suspected that the wind river people are not overly anxious to bring in the hopi well until they have added to their already immense holdings here but if they should decide to contest for the honor of first reaching the oil sands the race between them and the clampitti Clam pitts on the ada mana inana will be worth watching the clam pitts have drilled many wells for the southern pacific and santa re railways and are the principal owners of a producing oil company westerly portion of field in the more westerly portion of the field a large los angeles company is to take over part of the richards owen lease f from rom the hopi securities company they have contracted for a standard drilling rig and have signed up to have it in operation very shortly that portion of the holbrook field lying north of the little colorado river is receiving more attention at this time than it did in the past A pittsburg engineer who was here some weeks ago was very favorably impressed with its possibilities and his good report was followed by those of other geologists practically all of the government land in that section has been staked and among the names on the locations is that of dorsey hager the well known geologist who is noted for extreme conservatism the derrick and camp buildings of the holbrook oil company are practically completed and manager aerden says that actual drilling will begin neta week |
