Show OREGON A dispatch from roseburg says that P F M gannon a former roseburg resident arrived here yesterday from the applegate mining district south of grants pass with two other men he is developing an 18 foot ledge there which he says assays essays 16 per ton in gold besides other minerals of value Ae according bording to the record of ashland an immense body of manganese which today is worth per pound is said to have been discovered on little red mountain just west of red mount mountain aln the peak just west of mt ashland the ore was first located five years ago by a mining man by the name of keith who has recently filed on it there is an outcropping cropping out of over an acre right on top of the mountain mr keith had samples assayed by a government assayer who reported the samples to be very high grade there seems to be great quantities of it and there are two varieties one is the hard blue manganese which is used in steel production the other a dioxide of manganese is a soft substance of a deep blue almost black color samples are being forwarded to the government assaying department at washington and should the results of the analysis prove as satisfactory as the first capital has already been enlisted to exploit the mine the property lies only two or three miles off a mountain road and is easily accessible |
