Show WESTERN PACIFIC TAKES OVER DEEP CREEK RAILROAD louis G schwalenberg who publishes th the eGold gold hill utah standard one of the livest mining camp papers in the west has the following to say regarding the recent taking over of the deep creek railroad operating control of the deep creek railroad between wendover and gold I 1 jill hill ayas was taken over this week by the western pacific company which has owned a controlling interest in the company since it was incorporated the deep creek road however has been operated independently although its only connecting line is the western pacific the office of superintendent of the deep creek company oin jany has been abolished dished and W J davis davig who filled the position with headquarters at wendover left monday for stockton california hereafter the operating details will be looked after by the western pacific trainmaster at wendover 1 it is reported also that a reduction I 1 in 11 train service between wendover and gold hill is contemplated because of the fact that ore shipments from the western utah copper copper companas Comp anys mines have fallen off and passenger travel is light the talk is that the train service may be reduced to twice or three times a week though the mall mail contract calls for service daily except sundays such a curtailment by the railroad would probably result in the establishment of regular auto service between wendover and gold hill and as the auto service would be more convenient the railroad would get very few passengers out of wend vend over the train schedule on the deep creel reel road was made to conform with western pacific service last summer but since the first of the year two night trains were dl discontinued by the western pacific and as aa those trains were the ones making rather rathe close connection with the deep creek cree k road road travelers toward gold hill have suffered they must either come from wendover ty ly auto or lay over there about twelve hourel hours and get up at 2 in the in morning orning to take the train to gold hill the result is that whenever there are three or four passengers bound for gold hill they usually make up a party and have an auto to come lei through without delay there has been a report circulated recently that the night trains known as 3 and 4 are to be restored some time this month or that trains 19 and 20 which were formerly operated from the missouri pacific through to the coast are i to be restored but official confirmation i is s lacking though it is expected that whatever changes on either or both roads are contemplated will be announced in a few lays days |
