Show e JUDGE M S REPORT t the annual report of the judge mining ife smelting smelling Sm elting company operating at park city ity utah for the year 1917 has been mailed to stockholders in submitting the report sport president otto hanke calls attention jo ito the fact that the management of the daly haest has been taken over by the judge r t crests but denies that a consolidation of the properties is contemplated general J G W r lambourne in his bis report said defor for the fiscal year ended december 31 the total output of ore from the mine vas as tons dry weight which is tons ons less than the output of 1916 one gratifying feature is the comparison of the increased production of tons of crude or smelling smelting sm smelling smelting sm elting grade rade ore over that of 1916 being tons as against tons the pro ducts from the concentrating mill were 11 P 1736 tons of lead concentrates and tons f bof zinc concentrates the latter being the a product treated in our zinc reduction plant the metal contents of all products sold fol i alow ow ounces silver ounces h gold f pounds lead pounds AC opper copper and pounds of recoverable zinc results from geologic and exploratory work ork of the year have been unusually fruit taul ful f in fact the results attained in ore de elopement elop ment through anis research work is the brightest spot in the years operation J 1 now that the government has fixed a maximum price of 12 cents per pound for grade A spelter we look forward to a market et in the near future for the sale of our accumulation of spelter as well as a ready 0 market for the product as same is produced in the plant the completion of the changes now under way and made in the zinc reduction plant and which are confidently ex to overcome the difficulties in reaching its rated output will largely add to the income t the total receipts from all sources were 1 tp against expenditures of 1 which together with our dividend payment of has reduced our available cash balance to the report of general superintendent 0 N friendly follows in part F underground operations for the year D V have been handicapped by the business upheaval of the country brought about by war conditions advanced prices increased difficulty fi of obtaining operating equipment and supplies railway embargoes on ore shipments and the limited supply of labor with uhe the resultant lower working efficiency of athe iche men obtainable have all contributed to higher mining costs and to limiting production tion eg notwithstanding these facts however athe the mine has shown an increased output of metals over the previous year in addition it has materially added to its ore reserves A considerable portion of dead work has been done for the purpose of making the ore bodies easier easie of access and to make new territory available for future prospecting the benefits to be derived from this work are not immediate the ultimate result will be to the advantage of the company the the most important development of the year has been to definitely establish the presence of a heretofore unknown ore zone in the property geologic conditions governing this new ore occurrence have been correlated and prospecting based upon these deductions has been found most profitable in one case it has resulted in the discovery of one of the largest if not the largest deposits of shipping ore in the history of the mine results already accomplished make future exploratory work along similar lines most promising as there is every possibility that this new condition of ore occurrence will be found to repeat itself in other portions of the property no effort has been spared to keep all underground passageways eways and equipment in condition to make for efficient operations there have been no important changes made in the mill during the year but it has been kept in excellent repair and its operations are showing the usual good results at the close of the year there were on hand 2075 tons of zinc concentrates awaiting treatment at the companas comp anys electrolytic tro zinc reduction plant the statement of mill operations is as follows tons of ore treated wet weight we 6 ht tons of lead concentrates produced wet weight tons of zinc concentrates produced wet weight ratio of concentration for lead concentrates 53 to 1 1 cabio of concentration for combined lead and zinc concentrates 36 to I 1 number of eight hour sh shifts gifts operated average capacity per twenty four the plant located in deer valley one mile east of park city was placed in operation early in the year although it has continuously produced high grade spelter since operations were started the war has made it impossible to obtain the desired chemicals for the purification of solutions essential to the process the result has been a curtailment of production however by making some changes in the methods employed a way has been found to in a large measure overcome this difficulty and there is every reason to believe that the plant will soon be in a position to produce the full tonnage of p premium zinc for which it was designed |
