Show frank gilbert ga abert janney anney frank gilbert janney manager of mills for the utah copper company died in los 11 angeles on oil the dinst following an oper aaion for appendicitis it is doubtful if there was a man in the west who was better or more favorably known in mining and milling metallurgical and technical circles than was the deceased and while lie he occupied the highest places in his pursuit of these special branches of the mining industry he was also greatly esteemed and beloved as a man and for his high ideals his integrity his benevolence and generosity and for his attitude towards his fellow man frank G janney was born in salt lake nearly fifty years ago and in choosing his life work lie he took up mining and mechanical engineering and some eighteen years ago accepted a position with the golden gate mines company at mercur utah under D C jackling who was then mill superintendent perin for the golden gate company which at that time was controlled and dominated by captain J R delamar 4 i 0 V ra 7 7 7 frank gilbert janney about fifteen or sixteen years ago lie he identified with the jackling interests and was not only manager of mills for the utah copper company at the time of his death but was also consulting engineer for the chino copper company the ray consolidated soli dated copper company and the butte superior mining company during his life mr janney achieved both fame and lionor honor because of his successes in in the milling and dressing of various types and characters of ores and the remarkable results obtaining from the introduction of the oil flotation process at the utah copper and the devices and machines he invented and perfected for use in the utilization of 0 this system have attracted widespread wide spread attention and consideration in addition to the devotion which characterized his attention to his duties mr janney was noted for the time he gave to social and family duties and he was public spirited to a marked degree he was a prominent mason and a member of the alta club the commercial club the country club and the tennis club of salt lake city he was survived by his widow mrs florence B janney and the following nam ed children frank G jr general superintendent of mills for the utah copper company T A superintendent of the arthur mill of the utah copper company vernon dewey kent jackling nancy florence B and dorothy at the time of his death the deceased with his wife and seven children was residing at los Ati angeles geles upon the announcement of ills his demise his sons frank G jr and T A accompanied by general manager R C gemmell john M hays assistant secretary detary and cashier and H C goodrich chief engineer of the utah copper company together with mine and mill superintendents ten dents and engineers C W whitley general manager of the american smelting smelling Sm elting refining company D E burley and others left salt lake for los angeles to attend the funeral which was held on the dinst frank G janney was most popular in metallurgical and mining circles in the west and was highly esteemed by his associates a and n d by the employed emp loyes of the utah copper company he was a kind and considerate husband and father an excellent citizen and a credit to his profession he will be greatly missed by both ills his family and a host of friends to whom the mining review extends words of condolence and sympathy |
