Show tungsten camps of white pine county nevada BY FRIED FRED ay iy MINER ely nevada may 25 A number of very promising new discoveries of ore have recently been made at various points on the property of the united states tungsten corporation at tungsten the oldest tungsten mining camp in the employee going whither he will over the property following up float to its sources and opening new veins which has been of much importance in determining the resources of the property the mill is running steadily and turn ty of good ore is being produced in this development work tunnel no 1 is being driven ahead at a good pace and is also making an encouraging showing of ore from some point further in the hill cross cuts will be driven north and south for 4 14 tv A V 44 R ja A 4 1 71 ar ra R a A cent has been disclosed at surface in new work and the available ore resources of the company have been greatly strengthened thereby in the original hub vein from which the company extracted the largest production the ore has been quite erratic but the discovery of the new veins referred to seem to indicate that very substantial ore shoots are being added to the supply immediately available the company has in its employ a very eff efficient lelent prospector in the person of A R ross who is a kind of a free lance ing out a good quantity of concentrates and general conditions are excellent independent tungsten co the new 30 ton mill of the independent tungsten company at camp scheelite is about ready for operation some slight delay has been caused however by the of certain small parts of the equipment which apparently were not shipped with the main order it is believed at this writing that the m mill ill will be working by the first of june at the latest drifting is now in progress on the 65 foot level at no 3 shaft and a fair some distance to intersect other strong veins that parallel the tunnel vein the general conditions at this property are excellent and gratifying success seems aso a so for the enterprise the deiv compressor house at the mouth of tunnel no 1 has been completed and the equipment placed in condition so that machine drills may be used within the near future the consolidated tungsten the consolidated tungsten company is about ready koput to put int into 0 operation one of the most unique milling plants in the snake range district the property is located on williams creek one and one half miles south of the U S tungsten corporation and is among the most promising on that portion of the range the milling plant is being erected in the open air on the north side of williams creek and is a picturesque sight on the slope of the hill a large ore bin has been constructed of logs on top of this is located a crusher into which the ore is first fed then dropped into the bin from which it is drawn to a battery of five stamps and then goes to a wilfley table no building is being erected over this plant at the present time but will be during the course of the summer A steam engine furnishes power for running the plant and it is believed that a very satisfactory extraction will be made development is being continued on the dig big four and gem veins with excellent results and a large quantity of ore has already been produced to be conveyed to the mill by pack train tile the or oriole started on the tunnel recently vein continues to make a good showing considerable ore of and is producing good grade the highly satisfactory conditions that have existed at the main work on the scheelite chief vein still prevails and there is i s a general improvement in all places where development is in progress the ophir group another shipment of one ton of concentrates has just been made from tile the ophir or shepherd group at tungstonia Tung stonia the shipment being brought in by auto truck with it came about two tons of high grade float ore from the adjoining property controlled by bm charles and associates of ely the big open cut started on the vein about a thousand feet south of the tunnel workings is developing into a veritable quarry of more than ordinarily good ore and it seems probable that the product from here will prove of much better grade than that milled from the big glory hole at the tunnel from which less than tons of ore 7 it ZIA N n birdseye view of camp tungsten white pine co nevada the nevada scheelite co an ore testing plant consisting of a crusher set of rolls wilney wilfley table and an engine has been installed by the nevada scheelite elite company on its property at minerva to enable the company to keep in close touch with the average values of the ore that is being worked on this will prove of considerable benefit in general operations erat ions and will probably be followed during the summer by the construction of a complete milling plant A large shipment of good ore has just been made by this company to the U S tungsten company at tungsten where the ore will ibe be concentrated and basis of values determined the new work on the everett vein at the north end of the property is turning out a nice lot of high grade scheelite much or of which is being sacked as mined mine dand and will be marketed without concentration returned over worth of concentrates all of the ore broken in the new cut across the 30 foot vein is being sent to the mill and is turning out concentrates very fast the new mill equipment consisting of a 20 ton ball mill and a wilfley table which is being added to the original plant is now ready for operation and will practically double the former capacity the water supply for the mill has been developed sufficiently to meet all demands by the sinking of a well a short distance from the mill this property gives promise of being for a long time the star performer ct cf the entire tungsten belt output and expense of production considered tungstonia Tung stonia tungstonia Tung stonia at the north end of the snake range tungsten belt is one of the richest portions of tile the entire zone and is attracting much attention on account of the strength of 0 the veins and th tho w excy tio nally good values they carry the most important operation at time is that of present the ophir milling mine ang company controlled by A R shepherd and f george 11 rea of los angeles they have h ve a group of twenty claims held under op tion which are traversed hy by six or more m strong veins some of which have been bee traced for more than a mile through this th and adjoining properties they are equi ped with a milling plant the original unit of which was about twenty tons capacity but this is now being added to iby by the m stal lation of another 20 ton eccleston ball mill and a wilfley table which will bring the capacity up to about forty tons daily the original plant consisted of a 20 ton ball mill two eccleston tables steam engine crusher and other incidental equipment under the management of mr shepherd the mill was constructed during the past winter which was unusually severe and required the overcoming or many obstacles st especially in the transportation of material and supplies over the eighty five file i miles of road between ely and the mine A good water supply has been developed from springs near the mill and a very corn com fordable for table camp has been established over worth of concentrates has been produced from approximately tons of ore that has been milled in the course of the preliminary operations which were conducted somewhat as a tryout try out of the property rather frather than as an effort at handling a large tonnage the veta madre vein from which this ore was mined ranges from twenty to thirty feet wide and most of the ore was broken by one man and sent to the mill without sorting handled in this manner it ran from to 2 per cent but if sorted a much higher grade product could be obtained the workings from which this ore was produced consist of a short tunnel on the vein from which an open was raised to surface this excavation being about fifteen feet wide and twenty five feet long the vein is known as the veta madre and a U d its course is about north and south the ore is associated with white quartz the country rock is granite from the tunnel which is nearly a mile north of the mill the vain vein courses up the hill and outcrops prominently and to the south toward the mill it follow S the gul gulch ch out cropping in knolls at several places where more or less prospecting has been done it is believed that the wash in tw the gulch along the course of the vein will prove pro to be excellent placer ground and mr she herd intends to fully investigate this within with a short time by sinking a series of hol bole with core drills new work has recently been started hill fl two places one about feet up the 1000 1 from the tunnel and another about feet down the gulch the work consists cansis 0 f i open cuts on the vein and the showing JE i f E ore is excellent being probably stronger s tin n the lower place than it was in the tun it ael el the vein is thirty feet wide at the lower workings and hut but little of 0 the rock J fais thrown out as waste I 1 s the output from the mill has been about two tons of concentrates per month but when the new equipment is working this will jill ie largely increased royalties from the 0 output will more than meet the payments on the property on the no 2 vein feet east of the veta madre about four feet of splendid ore has been developed in a ten foot shaft and assays essays have shown as high as 65 ounces silver per ton in addition to the tungsten content several other good veins are known on the property but these have only been developed by location holes sixteen men are now on the payroll the apex group contiguous to the ophir property on the north and west charles and associates of ely have a group of twenty one claims some of which cover the northerly extension of the veta madre vein fourteen of these claims are held under option from dan simonson and hugh hale and others are held toy by location that the future of this property will be notable is demonstrated by very remarkable showings of high grade ore on oa a number of veins that have been opened and also by large quantities of rich float from veins that have not yet been proven up slabs of float varying from four inches to a foot in thickness and running from 15 to 50 per cent are scattered around the surface on various claims the ore having been found in place in some instances and in others the veins have not been found but undoubtedly will be by systematic prospecting which is to be inaugurated noteworthy among these showings are the apex apex nos 1 2 and 3 and the blizzard no 6 the apex claims adjoin the shepherd or ophir group ani ana the blizzard no 6 is about 1500 feet westerly considerable shipments of ore can be made from float that can be gathered up from the surface but systematic development and production will naturally be the program that will toe bu followed the strength and richness of these showings cannot be fully realized except by a visit to the property but when one goes over the ground he cannot fail to be distinctly impressed with the size of the veins and the high grade quality of the ore it is easily apparent that this is among the most promising property along the entire range and should turn out an immense amount of ore the bueno fe group F P M johnson it C toombs and A M moore have fourteen claims and two mill sites known as the bueno fe group east of the ophir and apex groups on their main ledge which is seven reer wide they have locations covering it for feet with a good showing of ore six assays essays on which ran from 2 to 6 per cent acid they have four other veins the largest of which is in excess of two feet wide showing sho wing nigh high grade running from 5 to 15 per cent nothing but bu t preliminary development has yet been done on these holdings but the owners are now pushing plans for incorporation and to proceed with development as a stock company they hold an option on a 30 ton mill the equipment of which consists of three sets of rolls two diester slimer tables engines boilers etc A number of other parties aso aso have locations in the neighborhood of tungstonia Tung stonia on some of which good prospects have been found and which should become important producers with systematic development natural conditions in this region are ideal for mining with an abundance of timber and the probability that plenty of water for mills can be developed from springs high grade shipment ent I 1 A shipment of crude ore which is known to carry 78 per cent has just been brought in from the camp of big wash on the east side of the snake range by W F P chapman the well known mining engineer and field man of the atkins kroll company this property is owned by mr chapman and W taylor and this shipment is one of a series of the highest grade ever made from crude ore without concentration the ore is crystallized scheelite and contains some rare and handsome specimens the crystals being ibeling translucent and having the general appearance of calcite crystals work has been in progress on the property throughout the winter and a number of other shipments of the same class of ore have been made all of them averaging over 78 per cent the or ore e occurs as irregular deposits in a belt of metamorphosed limestone feet wide and the operations might be classed as pocket mining from one of these pockets a single chunk of this high grade ore was taken weighing pounds among the specimens mr chapman brought with him on this trip to ely was a large geode eight to ten inches in diameter the interior of which is lined with pure crystals of scheelite mr chapman expresses the opinion that the east side of the snake range will prove to be as important a producer of tungsten ores as the west side on which are the camps of tungstonia Tung stonia scheelite tungsten and minerva on the east side the districts that are now gaming gaining prominence include big wash weaver creek snake creek lexington baker fowler flowler and garr garrison many prospectors are busy in the hills on that slope and excellent discoveries are being made |
