Show other camps and districts the review of mining conditions in utah for the past year would not be complete without reference being made to a number of districts and localities industries and enterprises which have failed to come within the scope of special articles prepared for our annual review number it has not been the intention however to slight any section or district in the state and failure to give merited recognition to all such can be ascribed to the fact that those who have agreed to furnish articles or data for the issue disappointed us to the extent that the lateness of the hour prevented the preparation of matter for sections that were entitled to recognition some few localities have shown but little activity in mining operations during 1916 although no district has been absolutely quiet and in some where much might well be expected but one or more properties have been in course ot oi active operation stateline Stat eline district included in the latter is stateline Stat eline dis brict in western iron county a distria district that is possessed of many attractions and which has a record of production in the past that would lead one to believe that opportunities still exist in that section that should attract the attention of capital and investors in stateline Stat eline but one company is working at the present time this is the federal mining milling company of which I 1 C dark clark Is manager this company has a working 9 lease on the property of the old ophir company and has performed considerable work in mine development and in the equipment and construction of a milling plant it is stated that mine is showing a goodly volume of ore of excellent milling grade and that the company will doubtless disclose considerable activity during the present year in ophir district mining activities have been pronounced ain ed as well as successful in the old camp of 0 ophir tooele thoele county during the year and the ophir hill consolidated has been a heavy producer of a large tonnage of direct smelt ing and milling ore while the companas comp anys concentrator has been in almost continuous service edward W dark clark is manager for the company A G swanson is superintend ent and richard dustan is mill superintendent the cliff is another ophir mine that has recorded steady production during the year this property has been extensively developed during the period mentioned and is reported to be in gratifying physical condition the lion hill consolidated during the year made occasional shipments ot of high grade ore the property being under the supervision of george st clair one of the veteran mining operators of the district the buffalo consolidated and the duluth utah exploration company are among t the ae holders of valuable ground in the camp in dugway district dugway district in tooele thoele county while enjoying the distinction of being a producer of high grade years ago but which has been on the idle list for some time on account of lack of transportation facilities has come to life again and this rejuvenation is largely due to the fact that the building of a railroad into the deep creek country will give it improved advantages in this respect while the introduction of motor trucks for ore hauling during the past few months has made the district almost independent of railroad or other methods of transportation and it is believed that dugway will be able to boast of a number of prolific shippers before the close of the present year among the producers and near producers in the dugway district at the present time are the laurel bullion hill golconda the lincoln highway the rattler the four metals the red hed metal the piedmont the dugway copper the yellow jacket horn silver and silver bell the pyrite the hidden treasure the belcher the beckstead the ocean the globe and the anderson the dugway district was fully described in an article by austin K tiernan tieman which appeared in the mining review in its issue of nov 30 1916 above ogden in years past a large amount of work has been accomplished in the sierra madre district in the mountains north of ogden in this locality don maguire agdens leading mineralogist has extensively developed two large copper properties and one lead mine in which there is a most attractive showing of galena ore these mines are but a mile or so from railroad facilities and the great wonder is that investors and mining men looking for properties productive of mammoth quantities of low grade ores have allowed these mines to remain inactive and inoperative in this district there are sev eral other properties of promise and merit around marysvale Marys vale in the marysvale Marys vale section the production of alunite ores and the manufacture of potash has led mining operations in that portion of the state A great deal of interest has been taken in the alunite industry of the marysvale Marys vale section and two or three big companies have been rating aerating oe there during the past year one of which has been on a potash producing basis until a short time ago when destructive fires interfered with operations but little activity has prevailed in metal mining in that locality however the property of the wedge mining company be ing one of the exceptions to this rule E P mowers of salt lake is the president and manager for the company the dully bully doy boy is one of the mines of that section which continues to attract attention while anne the deer trail one of the noted producers ot of the southern portion of the state is reported to have blocked out immense reserves ot commercial ore in the underground workings of the companas comp anys property promontory point the newly found zinc producing mines 0 on promontory point box elder county produced heavily during the early portion of 1916 but slowed down to some extent during the middle of the year because of the decline in zinc quotations with an advance in prices quoted however renewed activity has been noticeable and increased shipments from that locality are now a matter of record mt nebo and santaquin San districts in utah county have been rather quite luring during the past year although there are a number of most promising properties in each which should command attention near tooele thoele the property of the bing ham tooele thoele company has been in course of extended and intelligent development during the year this property is in charge ot of M T awoki and is reported to be looking encouraging no reference has been made to the salt industry in our review of the year and for the reason that this industry could hardly be classed with mining operations although its importance promises to give it prominence among the numerous and varied resources of the state in some special article and at some other time this industry will receive the attention in these columns that it so richly deserves |
