its framework could have been greatly improved by a little rubbing and pol ahing but bat no one ever imagined that the crazy looking and almost prehistoric camp was loaded loaded with millions upon millions that only awaited the coming of the psychological time and the analytical brain until these millions could be released from their rock ribbed vaults to help swell the volume of trade and commerce the world over both time and tide raised bingham to the highest pinnacle of fame when the utah copper company achieved a measure of success in the handling of the great masses ot of copper porphyries ries in this old camp and as each year has added mightily to this volume of profit making bingham has grown and grown into prominence until it is looked upon today as being one of the imagine that this is the only producer in the camp for such is not the case for there are other prominent mining enterprises in that see sec lion which have also added most materially to the metal output and which have participated in the distribution of more than twenty millions in dividends for which the district was accredited tor for the year 1916 in eluded in this list being the utah ed the utah apex the utah metal tunnel and the united states smelting smelling Sm elting companies other producers there were also that added to the metal output of the camp while not joining 0 in with dividend disbursements but a number of these without a question of doubt will be among the big ones of the district during the present year and will undoubtedly find ft a place in the dividend paying column before the advent of 1918 the utah copper the record made by the utah copper company during the few brief years of its existence is almost inconceivable it passes all belief and yet it would be difficult to predict what the future has in store for this great enterprise so rapidly does its ties develop and reach a state of definite realization utah copper at the present time is producing at utah consolidated has caused much surprise as well as favorable comment of late years because of the variety of its ore characteristics and resources originally purchased as a gold mine the company constructed ted a milling plant for the treatment of the auriferous product of its mine it was not very long however before wonderful bodies of copper ore were disclosed in the mine workings and of late years lead ores orea of direct smelting smelling sm elting value and in goodly quantity have helped to swell shipment receipts as well as the of the company which has paid in dividends to date of managed the Utah Apex among other bingham companies doing itself proud during the year was the utah apex which paid during the year making a grand total of since the company began dividend disbursements hardly more than a year ago during the past twelve months the company has added to its ore measures blocked out and in sight and advances have been chronicled in the treatment of ores the company entered upon the new year with bright prospects for the future metal tunnel the utah metal tunnel company during 1916 paid in dividends this company was on the producing non list but a year or two ago and the outcome of extensive development was only guesswork guess work until a few months ago when almost without warning the company broke into an immense body of commercial ore causing stock quotations to advance by leaps and bounds while heavy production was at once inaugurated the discovery of ore in the utah metal tunnel group brought about litigation concerning the question of apex rights v inch terminated by the taking over of the property of the bingham new I laven haven company which had already made a divide dividend nj paying record to the extent of some time in the summer of 1916 the seemingly inexhaustible 0 ore e bodies in the utah metal failed to maintain their glowing pro promises rm and for a period of a month or two conditions were not altogether satisfactory with the company quite recently however according to unofficial information the ore measures came in again and now the outlook for the property is all that could be desired the company has been increasing the capacity of its milling plant and the future for this enterprise is most satisfactory the bingham mines company the bingham mines camany during the past five years has liquidated a bonded indebtedness debt edness of nearly two million dollars and during the past year was one of the heavy producers of bingham its output being composed principally of copper and silver lead ores cres the company owns the dalton and lark and the commercial groups and a controlling interest in the yosemite mines company ill addition it owns a controlling interest in the eagle blue bell in tintic gintic district while it owns outright the victoria mine in the same district the eagle blue gell bell being a prolific and regular dividend payer the bingham mines company has a from that source that is very gratifying je revenue avenue the united states it is quite a feather in the cap of utah that bingham properties formed the basis for the original incorporation or 0 the united S states smelting smelling Sm elting refining mining company and it is still more gratifying to note that the utah holdings of the company compare most favorably with its possessions in other states at bingham the company is regularly recording heavy production from its old jordan galena telegraph niagara and mt aetna mines whose output are sent to the companas comp anys concentrating mills and smelter at Mid valer on the main lines of the salt lake route and the denver rio grande railroads the company also owns and operates mining properties at eureka utah and is operating coal mines in copper the ohio copper was in almost continuous operation during the past year although handicapped by litigation suits and counter suits for some time the property hasteen has been in in the hands of a receiver and was under working lease to the general exploration company which operated both mine and mill quite recently however a reorganization of the company was consummated and it is now known as the ohio copper of utah with A frank in charge as manager the montana bingham the montana bingham has made excellent progress in mine development work during the past year in addition to which it has widened its boundaries by the acquisition of the group adjoining and the valentine patent for the past few months most satisfactory progress in tunnel driving has been made by the use of the karns keystone extension it is stated that it is the intention of the company to install a large hoisting plant for sinking a shaft on kee e ground the bingham anaconda the bingham anaconda copper mining alining company owning a valuable group of claims in Mark markham liam gulch has been exceedingly busy during the past few months in the systematic terna tic development of its property and word is expected almost daily that the new working tunnel has encountered the ore body for which it is being driven the property of the company is admirably located and much is anticipated from it when the plans of the management shall have been carried out many other operators there are innumerable other properties and enterprises connected with ginghams Bing hams progress and prosperity that are well de serving of mention in this article but unfortunately tuna tely the lack of space forbids neither is it possible to give in detail the wonderful growth of the camp the number of new buildings Luil dings which continue to crowd the narrow canyon the fine public edifices that are adding to the appearance of the place and the improvements being made in sidewalk construction and road building bingham is a regular beehive bee hive of industry the camp knows neither day or night and the constant roar of mining and railroad operations is sweet music to the ears of the old timer of the district who can well remember the day when scarce fifty people inhabited the canyon and when a production of fifty tons of ore per month would have been a matter to talk about and boast about for lays days to come |
