Show WE SAY IT ONCE AGAIN for several years in succession the mining review in the issuance of its annual review number has expressed its appreciation for the loyal support and encouragement extended ty by its friends and patrons during the year and as we have used these tern terms is and expressions with so much pleasure so many times before we feel that we can safely employ them again and even more forcibly in paying tribute to those who by giving us recognition in patronage and in other ways have enabled us to give to our readers a better paper than ever before in li reviewing the condition of the mining industry during the past year one is impressed by the fact that man at best is possessed of but little foresight and while it is true that a great year was predicted for 1916 it is hardly possible that anyone could have foreseen such a tremendous market for the baser metals or that copper stocks could or would soar into the realms of improbable values and yet recurring t to our greeting of a year ago we even then predicted a season of mining prosperity that has since then been magnified many fold it is now believed and in certain sections the opinion has long prevailed that copper and zinc quotations have been too high and at figures that could not long prevail and these fancy quotations beyond a question of doubt can only prevail during the further period of the european war be it either long or short still normal figures after peace shall have been declared will be at a I 1 much higher range than was the case five or six years ago and as for lead and silver there is bound to be a much greater demand for these metals once peace has been restored the former to be used in the arts and as a money metal and the latter in the llie rebuilding that is sure to follow and at quotations considerably higher than the market now affords under the most trying conditions it is safe to predict a long period of profitable mining activity in the mining camps of this western country and it will be the aim of the mining ning to foster and support the industry which for so long a time has been the basis for its existence and of its growth and prosperity repeating the title to this article we say it once again for we certainly appreciate the devotion of our readers and the fine support and patronage accorded to us by our advertisers |
