Show death of colonel nl nick ck colonel nicholas of salt lake died in new york on the esth dinst after an operation for throat trouble there is hardly a veteran mining operator in ill utah or the west who did not know col nick he was one of the old timers and of these there are but very few left as nearly all of them have answered the last call he was temporary co and old tinie time friend of R C chambers richard W W chisholm john Q packard J D kendall L U colbath and many prominent utah mining operators of nearly M 0 aw IX half a century ago who have already crossed the divide in the early days of park city lie he was identified with the mining industry of that locality and was the master spirit of the old alliance tunnel proposition now merged into the silver king coalition in more recent years he was interested in the wabash mine in the same camp and also had valuable interests in big cottonwood district twenty five years ago he was interested te rested in the lucky boy mine in custer county idaho while in late years lie he has been beell interested in various mining enterprises and pursuits in different parts of the west st and even up in canada mr was born in devonshire england in the year 1850 coming to the united states when a lad of twenty he soon drifted to the west and ever since has been prominent in mining circles he was a thirty second degree mason a knight templar a shriner and a charter member of tile the salt lake lodge of elks he is survived by his wife and five children and a brother john all of salt lake it is sad to contemplate the ever thinning ranks of old time friends and the death of nick reminds us that the number col nicholas of those still with us is very fe few w indeed but we shall always remember the colonel because of his many excellent qualities of mind and heart for his genial courtesy for the quiet dignity that portrayed the true gentleman in all of his dealings with his lowman fellowman fel and for tile the high stand he always took in business affairs we shall miss him but his memory will long be cherished by his legions of friends and acquaintances the mining review joining with those who mourn his loss takes this opportunity of extending sympathy and condolence to his sorrowing wife and family |
