Show BRASS AND COPPER EXPORTS the anaconda mont standard gives the following figures on brass and copper exports and imports with a complete cessation of shipments of copper to germany austria hungary and belgium and clearances of but pounds to holland against pounds in the corresponding period of last year the exports 0 of copper from january 1 to the beginning of august approximated pounds against and pounds one e and two years ago respectively the two earlier years witnessed normal shipments to all european countries As a partial offset at least against the filling balling off in raw copper exports there lias has jeen an enormous growth in its exportation ua various ri ous manufactured forms including shrapnel shells guns and other munitions f war brass shipments have taken the ead d in this 49 respect with shipments of pounds as bars plates sheets and in form for remanufacture against pounds last year and pounds two years ago in addition there were shipped brass goods valued at compared with a year ago and two years ago the brass contains for the most part two pounds of copper to one pound of spelter the total amount of copper exported by the united states in seven months of 1915 was pounds we did not export a pound of copper to germany austria hun gary or belgium in 1915 the three countries named took pounds pound s of our copper in 1914 and pounds in 1913 As a partial offset to these losses this year england took in the seven months pounds as against pounds in 1914 and pounds in 1913 A ful the falling off in amount of copper imported into the united states during the seven months was due largely to the interruption to mining operations in mexico as receipts from that country were less than pounds whereas more than pounds were brought in last year during a similar period and nearly pounds two years ago A factor of less importance has been the complete elimination of australian copper in this market throughout the current year to date not a single pound having been imported although pounds were brought in last a year and pounds two years ago shipments of rio product from spain to this country to be refined here have be been n more mor ti than I 1 a n halved w with ith imports of but 6 pounds against pounds and pounds one and two years ago |
