Show UTAH COPPER IN LAST QUARTER 0 president C M mcneill in a report by and managing director D C jackling to stockholders of the utah copper company operations for the last quarter in 1913 are given in detail the report says in part the total amount of ore treated at both plants for the quarter was tons ac compared with tons for the previous quarter of the total tonnage for the quarter about 91 per cent was mined by the steam shovels and about 9 per cent came from underground mining the average assay of the ore for the quarter was per cent copper as compared with per cent copper for the previous quarter the lower grade of the ore was due to the necessity of mining the bulk of it from the low grade area near the northerly limit of the deposit there will be an improvement in this respect durin during the first quarter of 1914 the average cost per pound of net copper produced during the quarter after making allowance for smelter deductions and without vit hout crediting miscellaneous income was cents if the net miscellaneous earnings in in utah including those from the bingham garfield railway were credited to the cost of operations the net cost per pound for the quarter would be cents this relatively high cost was flue aue partly to the very low grade of the ore treated during the month of october and partly to the winter weather that prevailed during the latter half of the month of december the cost shown is quite satisfactory taking these factors into consideration both mills were in continuous operation throughout the quarter and the operations were satisfactory except for the low grade of th the ore and the reduction in tonnage during the latter half of december notwithstanding this reduction in Dece Dec emTer the plants slightly exceeded all previous records as to tonnage treated of the total tot ton nage the magna plant milled about abat 56 per cent and the arthur plant about 44 per ber cent satisfactory progress was made in stripping during the quarter these opper actions resulted in there having been removed a total of cubic yards as compared with cubic yards for the third quarter of 1913 the total amount of stripping removed during the year 1913 was vas cubic yards being an average of cubic yards per month and an average of li cubic yards per quarter the average per month during the first quarter was only cubic yards while the average for the second quarter was cubic yards for the third quarter cubic yards and for the fourth quarter cubic yards the operations of the bingham garfield railway during the quarter were very satisfactory in every way it ii handled the S largest tonnage of ore and commercial freight in its history an average of tons of ore per day having been transport ed as compared with tons for th the e previous quarter and an average or 2913 1 tons per day of other freight having been beela handled as compared with 2336 tons per day for the third quarter of 1913 the pas receipts for the quarter were the greatest since operations of the railway were begun |
