Show EXPERT VISITS SAN JUAN james R martin a pennsylvania oil expert who recently inspected the oil fields in san juan county utah has the following to say regarding his impressions of this sect section on in the oil city derrick with transportation facilities the field will wil be a cheap one to operate in a as s there is plenty of water for drilling and the formation stands perfectly when drilled the climata clemat e is fine and the work can be continued every day in the year many prominent oil men are going into the field especially from california and this summer will see some deep wells drilled which I 1 think will demonstrate the richness of the field the field has every ind indication cation of being one of the largest if not the largest oil producing section in the united states there are seepages see pages at intervals for miles north and south and for miles east and west there is no better field in the wo id to my knowledge where nature has prospected the field as in this case the cut of the river makes it an open book for 1400 feet in depth numerous oil sands are exposed by the river cut and their aggregate thickness is several hundred feet of these sands there are three principal ones from which oil is running all of which can be reached by drill drilling ng 1000 to 1500 feet in some portions of the field the top or uppermost sand is comparatively shallow the drilling done so far has been confined to the shallow sands and as aa a 1 l the land is government land the locators have confined the their work to making discoveries and validating titles these wells so far have been drilled along the synclinal basis between the two great anticlines anti clines and on the east limb of the western anticline some of these wells are very remarkable when one considers the conditions the goodridge or discovery well is located at a point near the river and at a pont point about one and one halt half miles west of the syncline this is a well feet in depth and when struck d oil at the rate of several hundred barrels per day some time after when the gas pressure had been exhausted a test of this well was made by bailing which showed that it yielded at the rate of six barrels an hour the quality of the oil is exceedingly good being a oil of thirty or forty gravity the tests made of this oil show it to be the best refining oil and very valuable after a careful study of conditions and the country in general for the past two months I 1 I 1 am inclined to think that utah is destined to become the high gravity oil producer of the future and that its resources will compare favorably with the eastern field in conclusion I 1 wish to say that there are great opportunities offered for investment and the country is well worth looking into by any one who is interested in or familiar with oil development |
