Show THE OLD CONNOR CREEK MINE herald baker city ore P J powers was in the city wednesday morning from the connor creek mine on snake river and stated that the mine began operations today by dropping ten stamps upon the rich ore that was recently uncovered there the big strike was made early this month and immediately preparations were begun to start active operations the strike is one of the richest that has been made in the county and it is probable that a large sum will be taken from the property within the next few months two prominent veins have been uncovered both of them being practically surface exposures po one vein runs about 20 to the ton in gold and the other is much richer the assaying showing that it carried nearly a ton in gold samples from the veins show that the ore is very rich the mine is the oldest property in taker baker county having been worked more than forty years since the first miners began operations there it is estimated that about 2 has been taken from the property it is situated about three miles from W E bakers ranch on snake river and is one of the best known properties in this part of the state the mine is owned by the reed estate or of portland and is now under lease to eastern parties for since the strike was made mr powers was employed to supervise operations and has put the mill in fine working order the mill has twenty stamps and the other ten will be put in order soon so that the plant can be run to its full capacity it is a free milling proposition and the bondholders bond holders are very enthusiastic over the outlook the property is well equipped for working having a good mill that is run by water power so that the cost of milling is very low the rich strikes are on the surface and the expense of getting the ore out is comparatively small the owners have not yet ascertained whether the veins dip downward or continue along the surface it is estimated that has been spent in development work on the mine and there are several tunnels |
