Show THE BREATH OF SLANDER it is often that a shrug of the shoulder the lifting of an eyebrow decides the fate of an undertaking the ruin of a mans character the shattering of his hopes and aspirations and it is generally the case that these signs of condemnation these expressions pres of lack of confidence are given wholly without cause and without knowledge of facts or due consideration in the the mining industry many enterprises are inaugurated which are wholly legitimate and based upon probable success the men behind the proposition are high minded individuals their intentions are of the best but they may be lacking in funds and conditions may arise which will lm impede ede the early consummation of their well laid plans we will concede that such is the case but that if left to a clear field they have an excellent chance to make good perhaps they have struggled manfully overcoming many obstacles and are on the very verge of success they need a little more help and this seems to be forthcoming when an inquiry comes from the outside as to their honesty integrity and ability the inquiry which in all probability comes in good faith may be addressed to some financial agency the representative of the agency makes inquiry from first one man and ihen then another in all likelihood neither of these men know of the enterprise and but little of those behind it but such is the nature of so many men that they would rather pull down than build up and to all inquiry along the lines above alluded to although knowing nothing to the detriment of the parties concerned in the inquiry invariably make a slighting remark accompanied acied by a shrug of the shoulder which in all probability works a greater wrong a greater hardship than was really intended but the harm harin is done a derogatory report is sent back to the east and assistance is withdrawn where had the real facts been known it would have been readily given it is often that unfounded prejudice is the cause of e f such slander for slander it really is and an injustice is done which the author would give anything to undo if he be really knew of the good standing and integrity of his vi victims ti cases of this character have come under the th notice of the writer quite recently and ne case particularly had a direct bearing origan enterprise in this state where thousands of dollars had been expended in the development and equipment of a most valuable property the men behind this enterprise are well and favorably known but for forseen unforeseen un obstacles success would have crowned their efforts a year or taro two ago on the eve of getting financial assistance the word of slander goes out against them and but for the timely appearance of friends friend sand and acquaintances high in financial and commercial me belal circles this assistance would have been withdrawn and the enterprise blighted if not entirely ruined it is remarkable to note how common are occurrences of this character how frequently failures can be traced to the breath of slander |
