Show GOLD HILL AND IOWA CO mine producing and ore treated in a lane slow speed mill A quartzburg Quartz burg idaho correspondent of the boise statesman in describing the property of the gold hill iowa company says the properties of the gold hill iowa mining company consists of a group of fourteen claims there were formerly two different properties and were in litigation for a number of years but were finally merged into one management more or less work has been carried on for the last awen ty five years and for the last twenty years they have been worked almost continuously the gold hill vein alone has been sloped for over a mile the pioneer mineralized zone runs parallel and within feet of the surface of the gold hill vein these ore bodies gradually draw together until on the foot level they are within thirty feet of each other work is now being carried on on the foot level of the gold hill A crosscut has been started which is expected to cut the junction of the big dyke and gold hill veins the main vein averages from eighteen inches to five feet in width the bullion receipts showing an average value of the ore of 20 per ton some of it running very high on the big dyke the values average from 7 to 9 per ton the company operating these properties formerly had a 25 stamp mill and depended a together altogether on amalgamation for the extraction of the values the result was a saving of not over 50 per cent the in the dyke are fifty feet wide all square the ore body now being worked consists of very rich ore sorted in the mine leaving a product of milling stuff when the present company took hold of the property the mine was full of water to the surface it took 10 weeks to it pumping at the rate of gallons per minute two bailing skips a number of 7 and number 11 cameron sinker and a number of 10 knowles all worked by steam were employed recently electrical power has been installed which is found much cheaper and more factory than steam lane slow speed mill the ore is about 50 per cent free milling the richest however is an antimony stig nite all ore is handled by machinery first hoisted to the surface it is dumped over a grizzly from there it goes to the crusher where it is crushed to one and one half inches then to the stamps of which there are twenty of 1000 pounds weight each using coarse mesh screens A 10 foot fool lane slow speed mill than takes the product reducing it to 60 mesh amalgamation is carried on in a lane mill mil then on to plates the pulp then posses passes through pierce amal g amatora into a frenier sand pump which raises the pulp into a de watering tank thence into richards classifiers dividing it into six products the coarser of which is on bartlett tables the finer passing over three frue banners van ners the sand at this point Js is allowed to run to waste while the concentrates are raised by elevators to two large pachuca agitators these concentrates are treated by cyanide agitation for a period of forty eight hours the solution then being decanted drawn into a large tank with sand filter bottom then into zinc boxes where the gold is precipitated the entire mill and mine are driven and lighted by electricity running the year round the present mill was started in july 1908 and has been in operation steadily ever since A large part of the ore being worked at present is from the foot level and consists of ore and ore fill that was rejected years ago as of too low grade to work it is expected to get a continuation of the ore bodies within the next thirty days on the foot level where drifting is now being done under them to get a lift on the large bodies known to exist A force of fifty men is now employed in the mine and mill which will shortly be increased |
