Show mining for tungsten ore 0 r e mining expositor Exposit cr ely nevada aiming to control the tungsten market of the united states E L fletcher has secured for the 0 A turner interests a lease and bond on the olson simms group of tungsten properties in the regan district in this county the papers were signed friday by casten olson and G G simms who spent the week in ely for the purpose of closing up the deal the property consists of twelve claims which will be developed by mr fletcher under the terms of the lease with the privilege of purchasing the group within one year for the sum of 50 the regan district is in the kern mountains about seventy five miles northeast from ely and was the scene of active mining operations nearly fifty years ago when captain lowe patented the mother mather lode group in 1865 the section is heavily mineralized erali zed but the distance from rai railroad road transportation has retarded development until quite recently nothing was done to explore the areas where tungsten deposits were known to exist but the prospect of having a million plant in spring valley led olsen and simms to look more closely into the prospects farther north the result has been the opening of extensive ledges of tungsten ore that have been proven to be up to twenty four feet in width and traced for the length of feet the ledges occur in coarse granite which experts have pronounced even more favorable for finding large tungsten deposits than the formation at the hub where the granite is fine grained wood and water for mining purposes are plentiful on the property which is easily accessible by teams and autos it is the intention to concentrate the ore produced in development at the new mill being erected by mr fletchers fletcherr Flet chers company at the hub south from osceola while this will be a long haul it will be down grade all the way which will be an off offset set to the distance mr air simms wi 1 l have charge of the development work on the group and will employ five or six men bunk and boarding houses and other buildings necessary for the conduct of operations will be erected at once and work of developing the ledges will be vigorously prosecuted extensive experiment extending over a period of three months by G F waddell superintendent of the concentrator at mcgill and E L fletcher superintendent of the tungsten properties on mt wheeler have resulted successful y in determining a simple and effective process for making a concentrate carrying a high percentage of acid which will be installed in the mill now in course of construction at the mines the process is designed to make a product that will run from fifty three to fifty eight per cent tungsten acid as being the most economical and profitable for shipment to the eastern refineries where the acid is prepared for use in making self hard ening steel for tools and other purposes first passing through a blake crusher the ore will then go to a set of rols rolls that will further reduce it while still dry to a maximum size of one quarter inch from the rolls the crushed ore will go to the storage bin from which it will be fed by a plunger feeder into a revolving 20 mesh screen where the fines will be washed out and pass to hydraulic that will make three sizes of product the different sizes will be concentrated on two wilfley tables and one isbell vanner the oversize from the revolving screen will go to hartz jigs where the heavy concentrates will be extracted while the coarse quartz will be reground to 20 mesh by another set of rolls elevated to the hydraulic and pass to the tables with theother the other fines 0 A turner president of the ely central and ray central copper companies and the man who brought tonopah to the front is heading a strong syndicate forming among eastern financiers to absolutely control the tungsten market in this country and the parent company incorporation papers are being prepared the deposits at the hub are said to be the largest in the world and will be the principal producers of the company one subsidiary company is already organized the Huber nite mining alining company which owns a group on wil liams creek south or mt wheeler where some rich silver ore is found in the same ledges adges with the tungsten but little development has been done on the group where more extensive work will be undertaken when the mill is completed in the mines at the hub a large force of men has been employed for about a year and a large amount of ore has been opened up the company sawmill has been turning out the large timbers and lumber for the mill building and the machinery for reducing the ore has been ordered and delivery of it will commence within a month though some delay has been experienced on account of machinery and pipe manufacturers being crowded with previous orders the mill will be operated by water power and the ores from the hub mines can be mined and and milled for a ton the concentrates produced will be worth about a ton the capacity of the mill will be tons of crude ore a day though only half that amount will be put through for a time |
