Show BLACK HORNET ACTIVITY statesman bose bo se idaho with the arrival of spring activity in the black hornet mining district about I 1 twelve miles east of boise has begun in i earnest and it is confidently expected this section which for some years has been more pr I 1 or less of a dead letter in the mining world A will vill be the source of great wealth to boise and the state at large ta A crew of men has been at work on the ground for several weeks last past constructing ting buildings and completing roads I 1 and there is now in the freight sheds a car load of machinery which will be hauled to the mines as soon as possible the shipment consists of structural steel and the parts of a thirty stamp mill which will be installed and put in operation at the very earliest opportunity A large quaint ity of ore has been taken out and is ready for the mill the bulk of it will average high in spite of the fact that there is considerable low grade stuff mixed in with it the machinery which will be installed is to cost over and the managers contemplate securing power from the plant at the barber dam it is thought that 1 it will require about horse power po to run all the engines but this estimate may not be accurate as it is at present difficult to figure very closely on such matters in connection with the work the mine when the road work vork is finished fin sh will be reached by way of the highland valley road the branch running to the mine leaving the main road a short distance before the latter enters the big gulch along the edge of which it climbs to the summit the road runs almost due north for some distance and then eastward to the mines the grade will not be a difficult one and no trouble is anticipated in handling the heavy freight that will be moved over it the black hornet people have recently acquired the viola property from the war mylar eagle mining company land and will also operate it in connection w with I 1 th their original holdings the viola mine is well developed and is said to be in a condition which will require but a slight outlay to place it on a paying basis half a mile due north of these claims lies the adelmann group of which great things are also expected this summer at the present time the installation of a big mill is contemplated on this property and it is likely that a smelter will also be erected the character of the ore which contains traces or arsenic zinc lead and copper will require the use of either a chlorination or smelter process cyaniding cyan iding not being practicable where the metals mentioned appear it if a smelter is put in the concentrates will be treated on the ground and the expense of shipping the ore will be entirely done away with in addition to this saving a considerable quantity of the baser metals will be recovered and the income of the plant increased mater idaly thereby eby al adelmann one of the owners of the latter property stated yesterday that they had had s several veral men at work for some time past taking out ore and that they had a large quantity on the dump ready for the mill when it should be erected this ore he thought would average around 12 a ton when the district gets properly opened up adelmann believes the returns from these mines will prove a great surprise to the people of boise the large majority of whom have no idea that immense bodies of good ore lie so close to the city |
