Show REVIVAL OF OLD CAMPS compared with the development of new and rich discoveries in the mining field the revival of old time camps is usually a slow and difficult undertaking coming back from the down and out class is always a hard struggle in any case something new always something new is the american slogan of today and the people are too busy in making new history to spend much time in digging up the old there are very few western mining camps that ever come back after having relapsed into productive nonproductive non obscurity the newer fields draw the interest and but little attention is given to old bonanzas trying to regain their lost laurels during the past few years however we see the tide drifting more and more toward these old forgotten landmarks of early wealth and we note several notable rejuvenations which will mark a new epoch in mining history among these is the old camp of pioche nevada at one time one of the banner camps of the west after producing its millions it was practically deserted and for many years was merely a mark on the map A few years ago the entire camp could have been purchased for less than one property would now bring the transformation has been wonderful and the mines of pioche will put their past achievements in eclipse by their future records the old comstock at virginia city hamilton and bullion tire are other nevada camps which are coming to life again and which will probably be producing when many of the present sensations are forgotten in utah there are fewer of these old new camps because most have kept up a more or less steady production since discovery alta and stockton have perhaps had more of the ups and downs than the others and are now getting in shape for another spurt every state has its old and abandoned mines which will some day be brou brought glat again into usefulness very few of these have really been worked out and modern methods and twentieth century enterprise will not let them sleep forever |
