Show the new camp of jarbe barbridge Jar bridge idge 1 nevada has a new mining district towards which many mining men are heading as rapidly as possible the district is called barbridge Jar bridge and is located in elko county nevada about eight miles south of the nevada idaho state line it is a gold tellurium camp and much is expected when its real value has been fully revealed and when extensive developments have proven the size and permanency of its ore deposits Tin unfortunately fortunately the first discovery of jar bridge was made just as winter was setting in and on account of the heavy snows it has been very inaccessible and not until april at least will it be feasible for large numbers to get into the district prom from the nearest railroad point is most accessible by the way of wells or elko nevada going to tuscarora and gold creek by the way of rowlands rowlands is twelve miles from barbridge Jar bridge twin falls idaho is about miles from the new eldorado and parley farley and of twin falls have made arrangements to put on a stage line from that place to barbridge Jar bridge also pack trains the stage will run twice a week to begin with the fare being 30 with a limit of pounds of bag baggage age to each passenger A telluride camp for nevada the discovery was made in the bruneau river county an isolated region given over to stockmen stoc kmen for many years an idaho dispatch in commenting on the find says it has been known by certain parties for thirty years that a sheepherder discovered a rich gold bearing quartz in that district he told some friends about it and went back alone he never returned recently a skeleton was reported in the neigh of the reported discovery of thirty years ago this led to a revival of the story and a search for the lost claim the discovery was made some time ago and while rumors of it have gained currency it was not until today that authentic information was available it is claimed in an interview with D A bourne who who made the discovery he says the ore is tellurium and carries sensational values some as high as a ton the smallest return from liberal sampling was 86 a ton figured at only 20 a ton however he says there is in sight ready to be taken out like building stone from a quarry I 1 twin falls people interested residents of twin falls idaho are greatly interested in the new camp poise mining dining men and capitalists also have obtained a footing there and as soon as ring sets in there will be a rush into jar ridge bridge which will eclipse that of tonopah and goldfield several years ago the twin palls news in a recent arcle bicle regarding the district says jack mccoy of three creek a veteran cowman came in saturday and said that he knows barbridge Jar bridge canyon well 1 I have sat on that rock many a time he explained pla ined but nobody then ever thought of any gold being in it prospectors have frequently been seen endeavoring to discover the source of the placer gold found in the bed and sides of barbridge Jar bridge creek they however always looked for the quartz because the idea was entertained that only white quartz carried values I 1 first went in there in 1874 and have visited the vicinity of that ledge many times since it stands up thirty or forty feet high and it is true that if there is gold in it according to the reports the owners have a mine right on forts to get in and out these are precautions that should be attended to without delay before somebody loses his life H E reed arrived here from the scene last thursday having been gone about ten days and brought even more enthusiastic reports than preceding visitors he immediately proceeded to get together a very comprehensive outfit including provisions for eight months for three people and said he intended starting again for barbridge Jar bridge last saturday taking a pack train of six mules accompanying reed were his wife and len moody who has been ranching with reed on the batters lat farm about a mile south of twin falls 1 I got into the camp last monday night a week ago said reed and found bourne there with his wife and two other miners he is the discoverer of the ledge and has his claims all assessed up his samples I 1 y r 4 r 4 i 1 1 S ww 7 ia 1 11 V iv 41 4 V 7 ex 14 1 ar 4 71 ai 5 F at A p W 41 F characteristic appearance of the barbridge Jar bridge region top of the ground in a general way I 1 should say that the surface indications are for a promising camp in my opinion there will be found enough high grade surface ores there to bring it quite prominently before the public for a couple of years anyhow of course nobody can tell how far these values extend into the hill or down several of the cattlemen w went ent in there from three creek as soon as they heard of the strike and some of them have secured claims I 1 understand right up close to the original discovery personally Person allys I 1 did not go up everybody may depend on one thing and that is that there is plenty of snow there also those going in and coming out should at once plant stakes in the snow securely with flags attached as a guide to the trail leading down into the canyon it if this is not done there will be many a man will get lost absolutely this winter in ef show much gold to the naked ey eye e and his assays essays run as high as to the ton but he has many samples that do not need to be assayed to recognize their gr great eat value in crawling over the side of the ledge one cannot find a place that will not show gold this being in an oxidized quartz porphyry mass freely spotted with sugar quartz fragments being fractures from the ledge it is these particles sliding down into the creek that I 1 believe have furnished the gold which has been brought out of there from time to time by the indians 1 I secured several good claims on a ledge alongside odthe of the one whereon bournes claims are staked and I 1 think these are just as goo good d as the one which has furnished the sensation in reality however that one ledge does not contain contafi n al all I 1 there is there it is a very large mineralized terri tory and will bear prospecting over quite a large area frank winter describes barbridge Jar bridge ion hon I frank winter a member of the nevada legislature from elko county in a letter to frank reber of reno has the following to say regarding the new tellurium camp 1 I have been on the range and am just in irom from the great diggings yes the strike is a marvel gold and tellurium with some high grade much in evidence up to a ton immense outcrops of milling ore in sight it is no false alarm for it is the real thing and a big thing my water power as granted by the state is running parallel with the strike A mill is on the way every prospector and mining man who has seen and examined this wonderful discovery is simply carried away with the result that boise twin falls and all southern idaho is excited and has got first on the ground and secured the most favorable locations including myself and wells friends secured through first discovery the country is located extensively the strike is along a five mile outcrop which is rich occasionally free gold is visible but the main values are of tellurium of the form the rich values being in small black specks disseminated entirely through the rock the free gold is along the cleavage lines the predominant enclosing formation is quartz porphyry or rather a zone showing much crushing and alteration with abundant evidence that t great chemical action has taken place when the solutions percolated through the shattered fissured mass and thus displaced portions of the dissolved rock and replaced them with silicates and the rich and abundant precious metal values one thing is sure the is strong and of the sure and permanent perma neni sort the mineralized zone is more than five miles long and with determined prospects a couple of miles wide but all the known zone and away beyond it is located the surrounding formation is complex there are in brief rhyolite porphyry slate conglomerate basalt quartzite and granite with granit grani the best entry from the south is by way of elko or wells to tuscarora and gold creek via rowlands rowlands is but twelve miles from the strike it is a poor time to come come in now for there are three feet of snow on the ground lots more falling and conditions are liable to be inclement up to the of april that date will be ample to venture into the new eldorado dorado we have horsepower in water and millions of feet of good timber all conditions here are favorable for greaten great undertakings der takings in the way of mining be prepared to move in here about the first of april from present indications it is going to be a whirl of a movement mining men from all over the country have their representatives in motion for these gold fields could ship from four mines charles smith the recorder of jar bridge district who was in salt lake a few days ago laying in supplies is another man who is enthusiastic over the outlook for the new camp in an interview with the herald republican mr smith said 1 I was in the district among the first and secured locations close to those of bourne the very best that I 1 could find I 1 believe it is going to be a big camp there are four properties now from which ore can be shipped crude to ane smelters shelters sm elters if we could get wagons in it could be packed out true but owners of these properties including myself do not believe there is any use to sustain expensive packing when but a few weeks will elapse until there will be a wagon road from the camp the ores that can be shipped carry values of 50 to a ton and they will I 1 b be e shipped in ever increasing quantities as soo soon n as we can get wagons in properties that can make an output now are the bourne discovery the escalon stevens Green walts discovery the claims of turo padlock and my own every man in camp declares it is the real thing and when everybody is of nearly the same opinion it would seem as though there was something there most of the claim owners are experienced perien ced in the business which adds weight to their opinions statement of an expert W A stevens of san francisco a well known mining engineer and an extensive mining operator who has carefully examined barbridge Jar bridge and who was in salt lake december 27 is quoted by the daily tribune as follows the barbridge Jar bridge country first came into the public notice only last august though for years past it is said it has been prospected to some extent but without results as the formations are out of the ordinary and peculiar to that section alone the country is very rugged and rough and soon after the first gold discoveries early in the fall the snows came and heartened disheartened dis many who anticipated going into the district mr stevens however arrived there about five weeks ago going up from elko and he states that in spite of the numerous difficulties and inconveniences of travel the news of the sensational discoveries being made there is finding its way into the outer world and prospectors are arriving daily and going to work in true pioneer fashion and with great expectations of striking it rich ni in speaking of the probable area of country included in the new district mr stevens said the ore zone so far demonstrated to be of more inore than ordinary worth is five miles long and two miles wide through there is great likelihood of course that the is of still greater area six operators in the district already have really excellent showings while there are many more who are meeting with marked success in the development of claims all work being as yet in its infancy the prospects of the section are especially encouraging to me at least in view of the fact that the ores of the district show the features of tellurium and the black sul aphides of silver it was some of this product from the bourne mine the first to be opened that attracted my attention to jar bridge had the formation there been of the free gold variety so often showing in pockets on the ledges in nevada districts I 1 would not have been so quickly interested in the proposition but the presence of the tellurium indicative of permanency and size was to me an especially promising indication di in all of my experience in the nevada camps I 1 have never been as favorably impressed as I 1 am with the barbridge Jar bridge mr stevens accompanied by dan greenwalt greenwait made a careful examination of the district and located some claims about feet west of the original bourne disco discoveries verles along practically the same dyke prospecting there good values were uncovered and mr stevens has now made arrangements to develop his holdings systematically a number of twin falls people having become interested with him in the proposition |
