Show MINING IN MOHAVE COUNTY old cid and new camps in arizona are making good special correspondence kingman ariz jan 10 the old camp of mineral Bli i park first mohave county seat and for a long time its foremost mineral producer is again coming to the front after many years of neglect throughout which turquoise has been its only product three of the best mines have recen taly changed hands and the work planned in these and already begun will probably result in a general revival of operations throughout the camp one of these the keystone from which nearly half a million dollars were shipped with a maximum depth of only feet had been practically idle for thirty five years up to several months ago when S R porter and associates of los angeles took hold the shaft has been re timbered and a new steam hoist and air compressors have been purchased which will be installed at once the keystone ledge with a width of fourteen to forty feet is one of the biggest in the county and its ore is fairly typical of the entire cerbat carbat range carrying gold silver lead copper and zinc there are thousands of tons of ore in the dumps and in the already broken As a matter of fact when the mine was last in active operation its output was packed thirty miles to the colorado river and from there shipped to san francisco naturally such ore was high grade and represented only the best in the mine but there was much ore mined that will mill at a good profit today which at the time was either thrown on the dumps or left in the while all operations were suspended as soon as the sulphides sulp hides were reached the present management will make no effort to mill any ore for the time being but will devote the coming year entirely to development the metal metallic I 1 ic accident nearby the metallic accident another great old time producer owned by tom mcneely and henry levin has been bonded by carl hand who will start work on the first of january while on the neighboring mexican mine W H peck has put three shifts to work mr peck has operated one of the mines at mineral park for a long time and is thoroughly familiar with the district at the pinkham mine midway between mineral eral park and chloride the old shaft has caved so badly that it has been aban dewied boned and a new one started by manager boyle i in chloride the most notable event of the week was the transfer of the tennessee and empire pire mines owned by los angeles men en to the TT T T 4 S smelting smelling Sm elting refining com PV daily A ten years lease with option to buy at any time was granted A P anderson of almeda county cal who reD represented resented the corporation in this as ar in all its former purchases in this county in san francisco district in the san francisco district a sale made recently of a group of claims owned by august just and harry anderson of oatman and H E woods and C E woods of los angeles to F M drescher marks the entrance into mohave county of prescott mining men the properties included are the surprise and great eastern with east and west extensions the ore chute little bessie and gold beginner which lie about a half mile south from the tom reed mine and are among the best prospects in the district at the tom reed mine the erection of a new liew mill while being hurried is in no way interfering with the steady production of the old ten stamp mill which is turning out about in gold bullion per month the first of a series of three batteries of ten stamps each is already in place in the new mill as are also classifiers filter presses and cyanide tanks in the adjacent carter shaft two feeders from the main ledge six and ten inches wide were cut at a depth of feet the shaft is being sunk in a porphyry and is about fifteen feet from the ledge at this point as shown by the upper levels although the porphyry itself has assayed as high as 3 the last ten feet down there has been no ore until these stringers were encountered which assay from 25 to 35 and would indicate the presence of large ore bodies near at hand the hercules mine in the same district was visited several days ago by its principal owners james nelson august elkman andrew anderson and john burkman all lumber men of minneapolis and dr IF royce of brookings S D these men were so well pleased with the results of the work done to date that they decided to equip the mine with more adequate machinery and to erect a modern cyanide mill and in company with manager A W brattlund left for los angeles to purchase these J H ROSENBERG |
