Show THE SALT LAKE ROUTE salt lake has not escaped the disasters consequent upon the storms and floods which created havoc and ruin throughout the united states during the early days of the month to be sure no calamity has come within speaking distance of the sacred environments of zion and for this we may feel thankful and yet the city finds one of its main avenues of traffic and travel cut off and temporarily destroyed and this by the wrecking of many miles of the san sall pedro salt lake los angeles railroad by terrific floods in meadow valley wash which occurred january 1st ast to the 3rd ard As a result of this condition traffic between salt lake and los angeles over this road has been entirely suspended and it may he be three or four months before the road will be rebuilt re built ready for business again three years ago the road was injured by floods in the meadow valley wash and in the neighborhood of a million and a half were expended in repairs the catastrophe of a few days ago however strongly emphasizes pha sizes the fact that it is not feasible to maintain the road in the wash and high ground will probably be selected when the damaged portion of the line is rebuilt re built new routes have been suggested one of these to go by the way of st george utah the other is via bristol pass in nevada possibly taking in pioche the sympathy of nearly every man goes out to the officials of the road in this hour of trouble and worry the salt lake route has been a great benefit to salt lake los angeles intermediate points and to the traveling public now that it is out of commission as far as through business is concerned we feel its loss to a much greater extent than if it had never been built buil t it is to be hoped that the company will experience peri ence no difficulty in re othe the missing link in its splendid thoroughfare 0 |
