Show NEW ACTIVITY AT SAN JUAN railroad red book the recent rece nt discoveries of oil in the new bluff utah fields are attracting the attention of oil experts and prospectors all over the united states and they are arriving on the ground from all parts of the country the present development almost guarantees the permanency of the field but some time will necessarily necessarily elapse before the real extent of the field can bs be definitely known oil was encountered in merchantable q quantities uan and of excellent quality on march 4 1908 by E L goodridge e at ata a point about 35 miles from bluff previous to that time as far back as 1882 oil was known to exist along the san juan river showing I 1 in n the form of oil seeps for a distance of 35 miles down the river from the goodridge well the first to be put down mr goodridge and associates of salt lake city put a small rig in the field in 1892 and opened a 50 barrel well at that time he then spent a good deal of time riding over the surrounding country seeking a location for a well that would give indications of a larger flow last year he decided upon a mesa 70 to 90 feet in elevation above the san juan river and about 35 miles below bluff and has had the gratification fi of finding oil as stated this well no 1 struck oil at a depth of feet below the surface of the mesa in the lime creek basin the rise east and west exceeds 1000 feet in elevation above the ground where oil was struck this great basin has been caused by erosion and nature has thus saved 1000 or more feet of drilling to the operator this well has been |
