A special cor-reapondent cor-reapondent of the Courier-Journal at Darmllo, telegruphs the following: Walter Saunders, late enorifi of Lincoln Lin-coln county. aDd brother-in law ol Jack Ballard, was killed last evening of Richmond, Madison county, by George Edwards, town marshal, and ' a party of his frienda. The particulars so far as I am able to gather them are these: A younger brother of Saunders' was at the Richmond fair a week ago; during that time he was badly beaten by Edwards. Yesterday Walter Saunders and his friends went to Richmond to attend the trial of youn Saunders for hia allegf d oflense. After the trial a conversation con-versation occurred botwecn Edwards and Walter Saunders, at the Garnet house, during which Sauudars denounced de-nounced Edwards' conduct as brutal and cowardly, at the same lime drawing draw-ing a pistol. About this time Saunders was shot by some other person, but levelling hia pistol, made things lively while bis strength lasted. When the firing endeo Saunders and his brother-in brother-in law, Ballard, were dead. Marshal Edwards was slightly, and bis brother daDgeroutjly wounded. Many shots were fired, but only the four persona mentioned struck. |
