Show Southern News. St. Georoe, Utah, October 2, 1877. Editors Uerald: A few dayi aince, four horses with saddles, bridiea, etc., were stolen from the Canaan rauche, and among them a favorite riding animal of value belonging to Jamea Aodrowa, who at once put his detectives in motion. Last week a stranger, riding one of tho horses, was seen north, beyond the Santa Clara, with a pistol at the how of the saddle. The party cunningly cun-ningly approached him for a trade, got possession of the piatol and gave chase, capturing the horse thief after lodging a brtll in his thigh. Another was caught with the stolen horse and both are here carefully guarded, the wounded man receiving medical caie. Parties are after the others. It is rather a hard job to protect riding stock from tramps aud "brokeu" miners of bad character. The only way, of course, aem? to be rough handling. Health hero in improving; as cooler weather is experienced. There have 1 been numbers of oaaea of intermittent fever at Washington and Santa Clara, ami a few in this city. It is nnw certain that the grape crop is short, and but about half the usual amount of wine will be made. The Bmall green fly has been very troublesome and damaging to the grape crop in BOme vineyards. The Sauta Clara has been nearly dry since June, and of course most of the il itches have failed, and water for domestic uBe in Santa Clara town has been hauled from the Bpring, etc. The waters of Ash creek, used by the people of Bellevue have alao of late been "stayed," aud the citizens there too have had to. haul water of late. J. E. Johnson is putting up a thousand or two cans of fruit of kiude obtainable peaches, apricota, pears, grapes, tomatoes, apples aud currants. cur-rants. This is the beginning of that industry here, that may in future increase to very important proportions. propor-tions. J. |
