Show The Washisgton &art while not believing that any trouble will arise from the closeness of ths presidential can teat, epitomizes the fears which have been epreed on this subject. It is apprehended on the one side that if Tilden should carry Mississippi and Louisiana by force and intimidation intimida-tion and be elected by a majority ol half a dozen vota, that the votes of those states will not be counted by the republican senate. On the other hand it is supposed that if certain of the southwestern states where troops are used go lor Hayes, and thus secure his election, thedernocratic bouse will not count them because of the belief that the result was obtained by tht intimidation of tho democrat, by the army, and that the use of the army was illegal, unconstitutional, etc. Thus, it is dreaded by some that we may have a contest over the electoral vote which will shake the very foundations foun-dations of the countrv. |
