Show Volunteers Wanted. Last evening a meeting was held in ( the district court room, to take into ( consideration the propriety of enlist- j ing in this territory, a regiment of , volunteers, and offering their services to avenge General Custer and fight hostile Sioux. No public notice of the meeting had been given, hence ' there were but few present. The meeting was called to order by Gen. Maxwell, who was the instigator and prime mover of the affair, and on whose motion Judge McKean was elected chairmau. Secretary Blaok was chosen secretary. The number present being so small nothing of importance was done. General " ' Maxwell made a brief speech in which he eulogized Gen. Custer, under whom he served in the late war. The general felt deeply interested in avenging the gallant Custer, and in punishing the murderous Sioux. He thought that Utah could have 1.000 meu at Fort Laramie in ten days, providing government gov-ernment would equip them. Many men from this territory were now m the Black Hills, and it was the duty of Utah to protect her citizens. He offered a resolution, that the meeting give a guaranty and immediately telegraph it to the secretary of war that the territory would furnish 1,200 cavalry volunteers, to avenge the death of General Custer and assist in ridding the Black Hills of the hostile 8ioux. The resolution was not voted on, but it would undoubtedly have been adopted bad a vote been taken.
