Show Boti"a Successor. St. Louis, 20. There is a good deal ot speculation this afternoon and evening as to who Governor Phelps will appoint to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Senator Bogy. The legislature does not meet until a year from January, and the question is whether the governor will call a special session to elect a successor or make an appointment tor tho unexpired unex-pired torm. It is well known that Governor Phelps desires to be elected for the next term, aud .it is thought he wilTuotappoiut any one who will be likely to interfere wiLti his aspirations. Among thoise prominently named in connection with tho appointment are J. O. Brodhead, Erastuu Wells, J. D. L. Morrison, brother of the presenl chairman of the house ways and means committee. There is some talk of Governor Phelps resigning with the understanding that Lieutenant Lieu-tenant Governor Brokmeyer, on as surning the executive chair, will appoint Phelps to the vacancy. |
