Show The Westminster llcvieic, the most friendly of the British quarterlies to America and Americana, has in its current (January) number an elaborate elabo-rate article upon "Foreign Loans and National Debts," in which considerable consider-able attention is given to our financial condition. The opinion is expressed that we are trying to pay off our immense im-mense war debt too fast, and that though the efforts by which a reduction reduc-tion baa boen made of 118,000,000 in ten years on that debt are most praiseworthy, praise-worthy, yet the object has been eflectwl by a severity of taxation and a mistaken system of imposts that have crippled many branches of industry. |
