Show As as indication of the present state of industry in New York city, tho Times says that the number of hands employed seems to be gradually decreasing, and the wages show a corresponding reduction. In 1873 th various unions had 4S.180 mem-bra, mem-bra, while at the present time they contain less than 1S.000, of which 8,790. are out of employment. A careful estimate of the workmen outside out-side of trade organizations, shows the probable number to bu oS,350, of which 21,420 are idle. |
