Tbe democrats of the senate held a meeting to-day and elected unanimously unani-mously Senator Wallace as chairman of the democratic caucus, President Hayes has requested the present heads of executive departments depart-ments to attend tho cabinet meeting to-morrow at the usual time. It is reported to night liiat President Presi-dent Hayes will issue a call on Wednesday Jnr an extra session of congress. This is not derived from an official source, however. This evening an onterlainment was given at the executive mansion by President and Mrs. Hayes to personal friends from Ohio. General Joe Johnston has arrived to look after a position in the cabinet, but it is not known at whose invitation. |
