Show Special Session ol llio Senate. Washington, 5. The senate was called to order at noon by Secretary Gorham, and after prayer the presi dent's proclamation convening the special session was read, Senator I''erry of Michigan was then sworn in and was appointed president pro Urn. The secretary was directed to c.tM the roll of iho newly -elected senators, and tho oath was administered adminis-tered to them in the following order: 1 Henry B. Anthony, Jarnea B. Beck, James W. Blaine, Georgo F. Ho&r, David Davis, Henry G. Davis, S. J. Kirk wood, John 11. Mcpherson, P. U. Plumb, Edward II. Rollins, Ellis Saulsbury, H. M. Teller, William M. Wiuson, Richard A. Cote, A. 11. Garland, J. G. Harrison, Benjamin H. Kill, John W. Johnston and M. W. Hansom. When tho liame of William Pitt Kellogg of Louisiana was called, there being no senators from that state, Iugalls escorted him the desk of the presiding ollicer. Bogy objected to the oath being administered ad-ministered to Kellogg, and said be objected to him being sworn in bo-causo bo-causo the senate knew there were two legislatures in Louisiana, and the case should be referred to the committee on elections for a report as to which of these legislatures had the right to elect a senator. Anthony submitted a resolution that the credentials of the senators elect in all the disputed or contested elates lie upon the table until to-morrow. Timrman said it was a rather dangerous experiment, to adopt a general gen-eral resolution, as under it any captious cap-tious objection could prevent a senator being sworn in. Ho thought each easo had better stand on its own merits, and therefore moved to amend the resolution so as to provide that tho credentials of William P. Kellogs lie upon tho table until to-morrow. Coukliug said that while he con-, curred in the views of the senator from Ohio (Thurmau) he suggested that the senate was sitting now rather for ceremonial purposes than for the purpose of business, and it was not desirable to be detained by repeated divisions. Thurumn then withdrew his amendment, and tho resolution of Anthony was agreed to, and Kellogg was not sworn. i Spencer objected to tho oath being administered to tho senators-elect Irom Alabama and Mississippi, John T. Morgan and L. y. U. Lamar, on account of the evidence now before the committee on elections. Their credentials were therefore laid on the table until to-morrow, and the oatb was not administered to them. The president pro (an. hero announced an-nounced that there were two seta of credentials from South Carolina and there was but one vacancy. Gordon objected to tho oath bein" administered to any one claiming the I j seat from that state, and the credea-' ! Hals of Corbm and Butler were laid i 1 1 over until to-morrow. i Lalayette Grover, senator-elect froni Oregon, did not respond lo the cad tor his name. I The senators not objected to having j been sworn in, Vice-president j u ueeler approached and took the ; o.Ua ot office, and was introduced tj i t::e semte by the president pro tcm.
