Show Theatre. The new comedy drama from the pirn of Mr. Willie Gill, entitled "Built on Sand" was played lust night for the first lime, and gave general satisfaction. satis-faction. Tho piece is full of stirring incidents and mirthful situations. Mr. Gill, in the character of Joe Sqwoggs, enacted the part of the "Bohemian" in a chronic Btate of beer, with much unction, and throw into his action a truly life-like portraiture. He proved himself to be a comedian of more than ordinary ability and we confidently look for some unexceptionable acting during hid stay among us. Tho management manage-ment deserve credit for placing the piece so well upon the stage, and the cast of characters was generally good. As Walter Layton Sir. Lindsay was all that could be desired. Mr. Graham, Gra-ham, as Sir Finny Kinu, the exquisite, ex-quisite, played his part so well as to loso his own identity almost entirely. en-tirely. Miss Walters, in the role of Therza Blakeley was quite equal to tlie difficult character she assumed, and portrayed the grateful girl and affectionate affianced bride to the life. Tho other characters were well sustained, and the audience left the 1 theatre much pleased with the night's entertainment. This evening "Built on Sand," with the Bume cast of characters, will be repeated, Tvhen all who love sidesplitting side-splitting comedy will have another chance of witnessing Mr. Gill in his specialty as a humorist. A new play entitled "Madge, of Elevenlee," is underlined for early production. |
