Show The Silver Bill. New York, 17. A Washington special Bays Senator Jones is of the opinion tbat tho silver bill will receive no injury, but on the contrary will bo benefitted by poatponemeut over the recess. Neither he nor others of leading Bilver advocates thought it best that Matthews' resolutions Bhould be disposed of before the recess, because be-cause they want the president to act upon them and be could have avoided action by pigeon-holing them for ten days which would have been as good as a veto. Jonos predicts that the amendments put on Bland's bill by the senate committee, limiting coinage, will be rejected by a majority from 5 to 12 in the senate and that the bill will then be passed as it came from the house by a vote of 5-1 to 22, or in that proportion. This is the result of a oareful canvassing. HehaB made repeated canvasses and keeps very olose watch of the fluctuation ol opinion in tbe senate. |
