Show A REMARKABLE PROPHECY. We recently run across the copy of an old almanac, printed in Boston in 1758, entitled "An Astronomical Diary, by Nathaniel Ames," which contains a moat interesting article on "America ita Past, Present and Future," and one singularly prophetic pro-phetic of our times. Unless our recollection be at fault, the author of this o;d almanac was Dr. Nathaniel Ames, of Dedham, Mass., the lather ot Fisher Ames, one of the most eminent and deservedly distinguished, men of his times. Th;a Dr. Ames was a man of remarkable acutcness and wit, and is said to have added to. great professional skill a superior knowledge ofj natural philosophy, astronomy as-tronomy and mathematics. He died as early as 1764, while Fisher bis youngest son, was Btill in his infancy. The article must have been written in 1767 when the whole country west ot tbe Appalachian chain of mountains moun-tains was in the handi of the French, and we copy what tho writer says under his tlnrd and lost head entire, oa being decidedly the most prophetic pro-phetic piece of political forecasting to be found anywhere in the writings of O Jr colonial times. Here is the prophecy: New Haven Iteyusttr. THIRDLY OF THE FUTURE STATE OF NORTH AMERICA. "Here we find a vast stock of proper materials for the art and ingenuity in-genuity of man to work upon treasures treas-ures of immense worth, concealed from the poor, ignorant, aboriginal natives I The curious have observed that the Drogress of human literature, like the sun, is from the east to the west; thus it has travelled trom Asia ani now is arrived at the eastern shore of America. As the celestial light of the eodpel was dire.ded here by the finger of God, it will doubtless finally drive the long, long night of lieaiheniah darkness from America. So aria and sciences will change tho face of nature in their tour from hence over the Appalachian mountains moun-tains to -the western ocean; and aa they march through the vjist desert tho residence of wild beasts will be broken up and their obscene howl cense forever, instead of which the i btoucs and trees will dance together at the music of Orpheus, the rocks will disclose their hidden gems, and the inestimable treasures of gold and silver be broken up. Huge mountains moun-tains of iron ore will he discovered and vast stores reserved for future generations. This metal, more useful use-ful than gold or silver, will, employ millions of humid, not only to form the martial sword and peaceful share alternately, but an infinity of utensils, uten-sils, improved in the exercise of ai t and handicraft among man. Nature through all her works has stamped authority on this law, namely, " tltat all fit matter shall be improved to its ! bnst purposes." Shall not, thoi, j tin 0e vast quarries that teem with me-i me-i chanic stones those for structure be I piled into great cities and those lor 'Sculpture into statues tu perjietu U the honor of renowned heroes, evvu those who shall now save tho .country. .coun-try.
