Show Horse Thieves Captured. In the early part of August last, a party of horse thieves stole from Mr. T. A. Starrh, of this city, ten head of work mules. The gentleman made dilligent search for his animals, and frequently hoard of them, but not until recently did he learn that they were at a ranch a few miles from Laramie, in Wyoming,' where they were being kept by the thieves. About two weeks ago Mr. Starrh, and Deputy Sheriff Sirrine went down the road alter the stolen mules, and yesterday they returned, bringing with them nine head of the animals and the two alleged thieves Robert McCaualand and James Dougherty. The officers had some dilhculty in getting out of Wyoming with the Btolen property, and were annoyed with the "god given writ" of habeas cvrpvs; but finally succeeded in accomplishing ac-complishing their object. The two prisoners are well known in this vicinity as bad characters. McCausland is a confirmed scoundrel and inbrod horse thief, trained and educated to the profession, and has grown grey in the service. A few years ago ho was convicted here for mule stealing and Bentenced to a term of service in tho penitentiary. He fulfilled a part of tho sentence and then, on tho representation that he was dying with a combined attack of consumption and rheumatism, was I considerately pardonod by the governor. gover-nor. Immediately upon being released re-leased he commenced hia old business, busi-ness, and soon got in jail for kidnapping kidnap-ping a heathen Chinee of the femi nine gender. Afterwards, with other 1 prisoners, ha attackod and over- J powered the county jailor, and made -his escape. Ho is now hold to answer i for stealing Starrh's mules.
