Show YHAlKITY-YHAIK. Slanaser LUrris Acaia Comes to Time Aud Gels iD inoiher Aiti-Com-moiiWeauii Blow. Salt Lake, January 10, 1878. Editors Herald; Sin. Ittook nearly a column and a quarter in your issue of yesterday to inlorm the public that I have tft great faults. One is my desire to mo.' money, a fault I always have been, aud always will be guihy of. The other is my objection to the "theatrical commonwealths." I 'again aeserl that the financial manager man-ager of your paper has had some experience ex-perience with the theatrical commonwealth common-wealth system say between twenty and thirty dolla s' worth, in unpaid I rinting bills, which I have been pay ing iu iuslal'ments out of my own pocket ever since tlie experiment took place. Meat every member of the commonwealth donated something to pay ofl the debt incurred during lliesa performances; even tbe ladies ul the company came forward aud paid their share of the losses out of their salaries which I paid them at ubtequent performances all except Mr. Lindsay, the head centre of com-monwea'jv com-monwea'jv Mr. Lindsay remarks, "If one mjVrithout capital can run risks, surely a whole compauy can in cur the same risks." takfl it for granted "the man without capital" is intended for me, but I consider $3,-000 $3,-000 00 some capital. I think Mr. Lindsay would look at that sum a long time before he would chance it in "commonwealths." Mr. Lindsay ays in Bubstance, th&t if I did not think ihe coming attractions would draw, the piblic would not have tho opportunity of seeing them. Mo.il decidedly Ihey would not. As to Mr. Aibisobor, Mr. Lindsay tries to convey a wrong imprejsioo. Mr. Aibischer made application for an engagement, which application I would not entertain; he then offered to assume all expenses for the privilege privil-ege of "strutting and frelliug." thought he could act; thoitylU bus occasioned a great dfjdl ot trouble in this world. X accepted his proposi tion. Mr. John McCullounh did exactly the same thing with Mr. A. at the California theatre. Mr. Aibiscber did not appear here. Consequently Con-sequently Mr. Lindsay cites as a Etroug point an instance that did not really take place. A mild enggealion: Three years ago, wbeu I found I could not survive here theatrically, I hunted other "padures green" and remained away until I was nquesttd to return. Moral: Others have tbe same privilege. privil-ege. I am still acting as agent for the renting of tbe theatre. "Theatre to rent $100 per night, lighted and cleaned." Anyone who desires lo try any pet Bcheme, "common-wealth" "common-wealth" or otherwise, ia invited to stf p forward. With this I shall let the matter diop, as it must be very uninteresting to the public, aud" I consider it a reckless reck-less waste of punters' ink. Respectfully, your?, W. T. Harris. |
